Trustee Gary N. Horton
Gary N. Horton is the Chief Executive Officer of the Urban Erie Community Development Corporation/Reverend E.F. Smith Quality of Life Learning Center. He served as Special Assistant to the Mayor for ten years. Previously, he served as a photographer for WSEE TV 35 News and as a Production Assistant for Erie Cablevision and worked for Greater Erie Community Action Committee as the Director of Housing and Economic Development, the Governor’s Office of Budget and Administration as an Administrative Officer in Harrisburg, PA, and as a Cooperative Education Intern for the U.S. Department of Health Education and Welfare in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Horton’s numerous civic and community involvements include: Leadership Erie, Rev. Ernest F. Smith Quality of Life Learning Center, Erie School Board member, Erie Western PA Port Authority, NAACP, Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, Minority Political Caucus, C.A.L.L., Small Business Development Center Advisory Board at Gannon University, GEIDC Enterprise Center Board Member, Catholic Charities Better Homes for Erie Board of Directors, North Western Pa Regional Planning Development Commission, Trustee Board of St James A.M.E. Church, East Bayfront NRSA, Westside Development Partnership, DEP Environmental Justice Commission, HACE Grievance Hearing Board, Western PA Eminent Community’s, Penn State Behrend Institute of the American Dream, NW Pa Freedom Institute, Walking In Black History Committee, African American Chamber of Commerce of Erie, and formerly of the Erie Times News Readers Advisory Board.
Mr. Horton is a graduate of Strong Vincent High School. He attended Hampton Institute in Virginia and is a graduate of Cheyney State College. He also took courses at Seton Hall University School of Law and Duquesne University Law School.
He is the son of Howard and the late Mildred Horton, and father to Asia Lena Horton.
