Academic Success Center Mission Statement
The Academic Success Center provides an opportunity for students to receive assistance in their academic endeavors. Our goal is to assist students in becoming more efficient and effective learners. Students may study independently or with professional and/or peer tutors. They may also participate in individual and group academic support programming, such as tutorials and workshops. Group tutorials serve as a supportive extension of classroom instruction. Much attention is give to self-esteem issues in the delivery of services to students. All activities are provided in a "student-friendly" environment.
The purpose of the Academic Success Center is to provide an opportunity for students to receive assistance in their academic endeavors. Students are able to participate in individual and group academic support programming, such as tutorials and workshops. Two computer labs, housed in the center, are primarily used by students for Word-processing, Internet assignments, and tutorial related purposes. Technological assistance is provided.
Programming strategies include retention enhancement for students who are experiencing academic difficulty. Academic Progress review is provided for students (in conjunction with Guidance & Counseling), conditionally accepted students, students on academic probation, re-admitted students, transfer students, and student-athletes (in consultation with the Assistant Directors of Athletic Compliance and the Faculty Athletic Representative). Lack of progress notifications and intensive tutorial sessions ("Operation Catch-Up" and Study-A-Thon) are offered after midterm evaluations and during preparations for final examinations.
