Despite an afternoon that brought torrential downpours, Cheyney University's 2014 commencement went off without a hitch beginning at 11 am under the sun and the shade of a huge white tent on the school's Historic Quadrangle. As the University Band played Pomp and Circumstance, nearly 200 graduates marched forth to collect their undergraduate or graduate degrees that they worked so hard to attain.

Twenty-eight-year-old college senior, Frank Mulbah, realized one of his biggest dreams when he walked across the stage May 10 to accept his diploma, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Cheyney University of Pennsylvania.

The Keystone Honors Academy (KHA) at Cheyney University held its annual end of the year banquet on May 1. It was a red carpet affair, complete with elegantly dressed scholars who took time to pose for a host of pictures. For the 34 seniors who are moving on to jobs, law school, graduate school, medical school and other opportunities, the night was bittersweet.

Freshman Egypt Bailey is the first Miss Beautifully Curved at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. The reigning Miss Cheyney, India Cross, came up with the idea, organized and hosted the pageant on February 26 in the Marcus Foster Student Center. The event was part of her platform which is to unite the women on campus by helping them all find the beauty that is within them.

Anyone who knows Allentown, PA native Travonya Kenly knows for certain that she wants to spend her life saving pandas. The 20-year-old Cheyney University ecology major, now in her junior year, discovered pandas after visiting the zoo in Washington, DC when she was in middle school.

Cheyney University's Thomas McRae is counting his blessings! The junior psychology major flew to California this month in an all-expenses-paid-trip-of-a-lifetime to be featured on Celine Dion's television special "A Home for the Holidays" which aired on CBS twice over the holidays. His adoptive mother, Joi Morris, and adoptive brother, Dawson Hylton, accompanied him and bonded with other foster children who were in the audience.

With the signing of paperwork and the exchange of school pennants, Cheyney University (CU) of Pennsylvania and University of the Sciences (USciences) made their articulation agreement official this week, paving the way for qualified Cheyney undergraduates to seamlessly enter advanced degree programs at USciences in West Philadelphia in pharmaceutical and healthcare business, biomedical writing and pharmacy administration.

The November 18 production of Layon Gray's Black Angels Over Tuskegee drew an almost-full house for this brilliant production which chronicled the history of the Tuskegee Airmen. The narrated production was presented through the eyes of six Tuskegee Airmen who battled racism and segregation during the 1940’s to beat the odds and earn their wings. The audience response ranged from laughter to tears.

On Sunday, December 15th, Cheyney University's Soulful Sound Band will be at the Big Apple Classic at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Events there include a college fair featuring over 20 HBCUs, a dynamic step show performance, a drum-line competition and highly-anticipated halftime show plus the basketball games.
