The Cheyney University Alumni Chapter of Delaware County Holds 3rd annual MLK JR Scholarship Gala

The Cheyney University Alumni Chapter of Delaware County held its 3rd annual MLK JR Scholarship Gala on January 14, 2012 at the Oaks Ballroom in Glenolden.

Chapter president, Rosalind Jones Johnson presented Sharon Barnett with an Appreciation Award for outstanding service to the Delaware County chapter.

In addressing the audience, Ms. Barnett stated “Had it not been for the quality education I received at Cheyney, I do not know what my life would be like today. Cheyney took young adults, and shaped and molded them into people sought out by schools boards and corporations alike to teach and manage their students and employees.”
 
President of Cheyney University, Dr. Michele Howard-Vital and husband Mr. Geri Vital, Gregory Benjamin, Director of Alumni Relations, CUNAA President, Junious Stanton and his wife, Sonjia, CUNAA Vice President, Marion Haliburton, CUNAA Past President, Barbara Daniel Cox, and Philadelphia Chapter President, Clarence Iszard were among the guests in attendance.

The annual Scholarship Gala was one of the chapter's most successful events with one hundred seventy-five guests as well as donations from supporters who could not attend. 

The Delaware County Chapter has awarded over $10,000.00 in Book Scholarships since 2005.
