Alumni Recognize Director of Alumni Relations with Award
November 9, 2012
On Saturday, October 20, the National Alumni Association held it's annual meeting prior to the homecoming activities. CUNAA President, Junious Stanton presided over the crowd in the Marcus Foster Student Union and Alumni Center's auditorium. Representatives from the many alumni chapters who were in attendance gave reports that included updates on Chapter members, fundraisers and activities.
The Class of 1955 had a special report to make when CUNAA Board Member Dr. Oscar Hankinson invited Cheyney University Director of Alumni Relations, Gregory Benjamin, '81, to the floor. Benjamin, already busy attending to the many homecoming activities, had to be called into the meeting. Upon arrival, he was surprised to be recognized by the Class of 1955 with a special commendation and plaque in recognition of “his never ending and unselfish efforts to promote a positive relationship with the university and the alumni”.
In presenting the award, Hankinson said, "We have depended on Greg for information, guidance and support. We see him as someone with a lot of information at his fingertips and who has a feel for what Cheyney graduates were looking for. This event seemed to be the right time to recognize him for all the good work he has done on behalf of our alma mater."
Benjamin, touched by the unexpected gesture, was speechless and truly touched by the award. "This was a complete surprise for me. It is an honor to assist all the alumni and their chapters with their work. The Cheyney University administration and I are most appreciative of all they do for their alma mater."
