Dr. Terry Rodenberg, retired professor of Sociology and Assistant Vice Chancellor of International Studies at Western Illinois University, will present a lecture on “The Negro Leagues and the Desegregation of Baseball - The Rest of the Story" on April 3. Rodenberg's lecture comes just before the release of the movie 42, a biographical film about the life of baseball player Jackie Robinson, the first African American to play Major League Baseball in the modern era.

This Little Light of Mine, The Stories of Marian Anderson and Leontyne Price, will be performed by soprano Adrienne Danrich at the Marian Anderson Music Center on the campus of Cheyney University on Tuesday March 5 at 7:30 pm. Cheyney University Artist in Residence Wendell George Brown gave a gallery walk-through for Professor D'Antonio-Madsen and Professor Domenic's art students on Thursday afternoon. The event marked the opening of his show and the conclusion of a week's work in preparing the room for public view.

Mali Sadjo: The Legend of the Hippopotamus, performed by Kulu Mele African American Dance & Drum Ensemble, will entertain audiences on Thursday, March 25 at the Marian Anderson Music Center at 7:30 pm.

The Black Violin concert in Marian Anderson Music Center on September 18 evening nearly filled the Marian Anderson Music Center. Just as notable, however, was the clinic conducted by Black Violin violist Wil B and violinist Kev Marcus earlier in the afternoon in the Cheyney University band room.

The Arts and Lecture program provides an opportunity for shared academic and cultural experiences among faculty, staff, and students across departments and disciplines. The program presents ideas, issues, and problems significant for general education and society at large, and brings you world-class performances, lectures, films, and special events. These events are sponsored by Strengthening Historically Black College and Universities (Title III). Most events are free and opened to public.

The arts and lectures series begins Feb. 16 with Dr. Yohuru Williams, a lecturer on race and politics. On Feb. 24, Dr. Raymond Wise will explore the impact of spirituals and gospel music on African American Heritage. March 2 Sojourner Truth, Frederick Douglass, and Harriet Tubman will visit for a fireside chat. Throughout April the works of artist Purvis Young will be on exhibit and April 8 brings the Dance Theatre of Harlem. Don't miss the series finale, Treemonisha, on April 27.
