Cheyney University "Soulful Sound" Marching Band

Cheyney University "Soulful Sound" Marching Band

The Cheyney University band program was re-established in 2005 with the assistance of a very talented, enthusiastic, and determined group of students. In the past three years we have been involved in a wonderful journey.

The Director of Bands at Cheyney University, Professor Allen Gardner, developed a rich and rigorous environment for music majors and non-music majors to grow aesthetically through preparation, musical instruction, and performance. Students are given the opportunity to achieve the program’s goal to “educate,” “elevate,” and “entertain” themselves and various audiences through the variety of venues available to University band participants. We call these three goals “The Three E’s”.

The multifaceted Cheyney University Band Program’s primary function is to serve Cheyney University and the surrounding community through its various subcomponents, i.e., ensembles. These ensembles that will make up the Cheyney University Band Program, are the marching band, pep band, concert band, jazz ensemble, jazz combo, woodwind ensemble, and the brass ensemble.
