Billington, Mines and Silver represent Cheyney University on the Women’s At Large All Area Academic Team. The trio is part of 11 student-athletes selected to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women’s At-Large Team. The team was voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Led by Janae Silver, Cheyney University sits third at the PA State Championship. Cheyney went 1-3 in baker matches with a win against Lincoln University. The Lady Wolves bowled their new high team game of 846 only to be beat only to fall to Kutztown (947).

Janea Silver and Taylor Billington paced the Cheyney University Women’s Bowling Team at the James Brown Invitational hosted by Morgan State Invitational. Silver averaged 151 pins while Billington averaged 147 over the three day tournament.

Cheyney went 3-3 on day one of the three day tournament hosted by Kutztown University and Heister Lanes in Reading with 3,978 pins. Day one featured six baker matches. The Lady Wolves squeaked out 614-609 opening match win over Hampton. The first time CU has ever beaten Hampton on the lanes.

The CU Bowling Team got back in action this weekend at the Jeannette Lee Tournament in Richmond, Virginia. On day one of the three day tournament the Lady Wolves were an impressive 4-0 in baker matches and stood in fifth place with 2,475 pins. Cheyney defeated St. Augustine (593-579), Chowan (656-548), Elizabeth City (628-616), and Virginia State (598-562). The Lady Wolves earned 537 in their bye match. Alean Rhodes led the way by striking in over 50% of the frames bowled.

The 2011-12 collegiate bowling season began this past weekend with the Lady Wolves participating in the Kutztown duals in Reading.

The Cheyney University bowling team ended the 2010-11 season with more wins than any other CU bowling squad. The team ended the campaign with 18 victories with wins over arch rival Lincoln, Division I Coppin State and # 10 Adelphi just to name a few.

Danielle Mines led the Lady Wolves to a fourth place finish at the 2011 Pennsylvania State Bowling Championship. Cheyney hosted the fever ever state championship at Devon Lanes. Mines averaged 173.2 over the weekend.

The Wolves went 2-2 on the opening day of the 2011 Pennsylvania State Bowling Championships and finished day one in fourth place with 3547 pins. In the first match of the day, the Lady Wolves found themselves down 50 pins in the seventh frame. However, the Lady Wolves rallied and pulled the upset defeating Penn State Altoona 711-661. The Wolves then dropped matches to Kutztown and St. Francis (PA) before defeating fellow HBCU rival Lincoln 731-556.

Cheyney University will host the 2011 Pennsylvania Women’s Bowling Championship at Devon Lanes on Saturday and Sunday, February 12-13. Universities sponsoring NCAA bowling programs will gather in Devon, PA for the first of what hopes to be an annual event on the collegiate bowling circuit.

Cheyney upset 10th ranked Adelphi this weekend at the Kutztown Bowling Invitational. Cheyney defeated the Panthers 802-790. The 802 series was a season high for the Lady Wolves. Cheyney was led by Philadelphia native Janae Silver (Central HS). The freshman rolled a career high 236.

Danielle Mines rolled a personal best 201 as Cheyney competed in their first event of the new year at the Frederick E Underwood Lady Bulldog Classic hosted by Bowie State. Mines averaged a 167.

The Cheyney Women’s Bowling team competed among the nations best as they traveled up the New Jersey Turnpike for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships hosted by New Jersey City University. The Wolves dropped contests against nationally ranked number 1 Fairleigh Dickinson University, number 4 New Jersey City University, number 7 Sacred heart University, number 15 Morgan State University and number 16 Adelphi University.
Cheyney was led by Ebony Finney. The senior from the Bronx, New York averaged 134 pins during the championships. Each member of the squad averaged more than 120 pins. The Wolves conclude the season this weekend at the Music City Classic in Nashville, Tennessee. Vanderbilt University will be the host institution.

The Lady Wolves were part of the 12 team Holiday Tournament at the Holiday Jamboree hosted by Farleigh Dickinson University. Cheyney completed the three day festival at the Parkway Lanes in Elmwood Park, New Jersey dropping all 13 matches.
The Lady Wolves were led by Marchaunda Tiller. The junior averaged 150 pins per game. Erin Simmons also had a strong tournament averaging a 148.
Cheyney will next hit the lanes on January 26-28 at the Aggie Women’s NCAA Invitational hosted by North Carolina A&T.

Coach Harold Johnson and his young bowlers got the 2005-06 season underway this past weekend at the Capital Classic. The tournament featured ten universities from New Jersey to South Carolina. The Wolves, paced by Erin Simmons, dropped five matches. Cheyney fell to St. Peter's College, Delaware State, South Carolina State, Morgan State and New Jersey City University. Simmons, a junior, posted a 677 series averaging 135 pins. She was named the team's mvp from this weeks tournament.

Cheyney Bowlers got a taste of the big time college athletics as they traveled to Vanderbilt Universtiy to compete in the Music City Invitational. The Wolves dropped all six matches in Nashville, Tennesse. Cheyney competed against Nebraska, Central Missouri, Arkansas State, Southern, Alabama A&M and Vanderbilt. Marchaunda Tiller led the way for Cheyney scoring a total of 868 pins.

Bowling Coach Harold Johnson has been asked by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to serve as a clinician at the NCAA Youth Education through Sports (YES) Clinic Fueled by POWERade. The clinic is scheduled for Saturday, April 16 at Brunswick Wekiva Lanes in Apopka, Florida. The Clinic will take place during the NCAA National Collegiate Bowling Championship.

Five Cheyney women's basketball players their final game in Cope Hall tonight. Jewel Williams, Lakemia Smith, Ebonee Thompson, Latoya Showell and Fants Sissoko all started for the Wolves in a 67-62 loss to Columbai Union College before 123 faithful fans. The five were recognized in a pre-game ceremony that featured remarks form University President Wallace Arnold. It was the first time all season that rookie head coach Jada Pierce used the all senior line-up on the court at the same time.
