The Call Me MISTER Program is a national teacher leadership program that not only prepares you for a successful career as an elementary teacher but also provides you with resources that will place you in a position to effectively impact the lives of children.

Announcement and Information

The Call Me MISTER Teacher Leadership Program is expanding from the original 24 participants to include 45 participants. The program is adopting a leadership institute model to expand its influence to the community and to continue its support for the next generation of teachers who aspire to become leaders in the field of education. The Call Me MISTER Teacher Leadership Program will be comprised of approximately 20 students who are scholars and 25 additional students who are institute members.

Scholars of the Call Me MISTER Teacher Leadership Program will receive a last dollar Call Me MISTER scholarship of $5,000 to go towards tuition, room and board. Scholars will also receive a $400 book scholarship, a stipend to cover Praxis Testing fees, Praxis Workshop Training, support for conference attendance, access to internships across the country and access to premier housing on campus. Scholars in the program must be at the sophomore, junior senior or graduate level, have passed Praxis I for Pennsylvania and have at least a 3.0 GPA to qualify for the items listed above. They will be required to attend various mentor/teacher leadership sessions on campus as well as designated mentoring and pre-professional development activities deemed by the Director. For every year that a scholar receives the Call Me MISTER Scholarship, they are committing to one year of teaching in the state of Pennsylvania.

Institute members of the Call Me MISTER Teacher Leadership Program will receive a stipend to cover Praxis Testing fees, Praxis Workshop Training, support for conference attendance and access to internships across the country. Institute members will be encouraged to attend various mentor/teacher leadership sessions on campus as well as designated mentoring and pre-professional development activities as deemed by the Director. Institute members can be classified as freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors. The goal for institute members is to become scholars in the Call Me MISTER Teacher Leadership Program. The institute is designed to recruit, track and retain students who are education majors and/or participants who aspire to enter into the education industry post graduation.

  • Essay (Include at least 2 of the following below, 2-3 page essay)
    • Why do you want to become a teacher?
    • What are 5 things that you plan to change as an educator?
    • What does the quote “become the unconventional teacher for the non-traditional classroom...” mean to you?
  • Federal Criminal History Record
  • Pennsylvania State Criminal Record Check
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance

* Applicants must be accepted by the university in order to apply to the Call Me MISTER Teacher Leadership Program
* Current Cheyney University students can omit the copy of acceptance letter and official transcript

If selected for interview, applicant will:

  • Attend a formal in-person interview (or video conference, depending on location/availability)
  • Complete a phone interview

If you are not selected for an interview, applicant will receive an email from the Call Me MISTER Teacher Leadership Program.

Applications will be accepted from April 18th until June 24th 2011. Applications must be postmarked by June 24th. Interviews will take place June 28th – July 8th 2011. Students will be notified of the outcome of their interviews by July 15th 2011.
