High School Males will participate in a week long residential life experience (August 7th-13th) at Cheyney University that exposes them to; goal setting, mentor leadership development, college preparedness, SAT preparation and pre-professional skills. Participants will have the opportunity to participate in recreational activities as follows; swimming, tennis, golf, basketball, football and other activities. Students should apply immediately as space is limited!

Starting this month, all Cheyney University faculty, staff, and students can take online Microsoft Digital Literacy Courses twenty-four hours per day and seven day per week for FREE. The online courses are available on the MyCU (Intranet) portal located on the cheyney.edu homepage.

Shawn Murray works with his mother Gladys on the James Murray & Edwin Wilkinson Scholarship they created. The awards of $1,000 each will be given to three students to attend Cheyney University’s Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management program. Shawn Murray, coordinator of the program, is a graduate of the Plymouth Whitemarsh High School and the culinary arts program at the Central Montco Technical High School. This year’s recipients of the new scholarship will come from the 2011 class at CMTHS.

The Writing Center promotes literacy at America’s oldest Historically Black Institution of Higher Learning by providing support for student writing across all classes and disciplines. Writing assistants offer one-on-one consultations at all stages of the writing process from focusing topics through drafting, revising, and editing. The Writing Center at Cheyney University provides a friendly, quiet environment for reading, writing, and collaboration.

The scholarships vary in criteria, award amounts, and deadline dates, but are available from over 100 different companies, organizations, and foundations.

The PIFA events (April 7 - May 1, 2011)are being held in collaboration with the Kimmel Center (Philadelphia) as part of the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA). The events offered for PIFA are inclusive of Music, Theatre, Art, Graphics Communication Arts, English and Foreign Language.

The program presents ideas, issues, and problems significant for general education and society at large, and brings you world-class performances, lectures, films, and special events. These events are sponsored by Strengthening Historically Black College and Universities (Title III). Most events are free and opened to public.

During the week of February 22nd, Cheyney University will host a lecture with film maker Spike Lee, a tribute to the late Ed Bradley (former CBS television news journalist and Cheyney alumnus), as well as, performances, art exhibits and presentations all culminating in the University’s annual Founder’s Day Convocation. The events are open to students, alumni, faculty, staff and the general public.
