Q. What did you fear most before going on your internship?

The faculty and staff at Cheyney worked with me to make sure I was learning on the internship, meeting the requirements of my syllabus and registering for my classes

Internships are extremely valuable.  During the time at Prometheus, I met several different types of individuals from all walks of life.  I had a chance to travel to conferences with co-workers, many of whom I have stayed in contact with until this day.  I was lucky to be in a really supportive environment and I enjoyed every minute of my internship at Prometheus.

Q. How many other college students participated in the internship with Acme Markets?
There was another student from Cheyney University in the internship, but all together, I believe there were 27 students from different universities.

Q. In which department did you work?
I was one of the Management interns and I got to work closely with the store manager every day in different departments of the supermarket so that I could learn how Acme does business.

Q. Was your internship related to your future career interests?
Yes.  My ultimate goal is to own my own business one day; that is why I am a Business Administration major.  The experience to work closely with the store manager let me see the daily routines and operations behind managing a company.

Q. What was the best part of your internship at Acme Markets?
The best part was being able to meet the President of Acme Markets and actually spend time in her office talking to her at the corporate site in Malvern.  All the interns got together several times for training at the corporate offices.

Q. What workplace skills did you develop during your internship?
I really learned more about how to communicate better with people including customers, bosses and other interns.

Q. Did you have any fears about going on your internship?
My biggest fear was that I would not like the internship and that it might not be exciting.  However, once I got there I found it to be kind of fun.  You keep very busy in retail and you are always learning new things.

Q. How did Cheyney support you during your internship?
They supported me very well. They were the ones who helped me get the internship.

Q. What would you tell other students about the value of internships?
I believe that doing internships is a very big part of college life.  You get to experience different things in the field and learn more about how people work.   Internships help you to improve your workplace skills and builds up your resume.  I believe students should try and do an internship every year, because you get to meet new people and network with professionals that could help you along your career.

If you are interested in doing an internship, visit the Center for Career & Professional Development and find out how we can help!  You could be one of our students who qualify for a 2009 Summer Internship Stipend of up to $500!
