The Monarch Awards Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit foundation of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Xi Nu Omega Chapter. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., the oldest Greek-letter organization established by Black college women in America, was formed in 1908 by nine Howard University students. It soon became America’s premier organization for college-educated women, focusing on academic excellence and community service. The international sorority has grown to over 760 chapters, both undergraduate and alumnae.

Chartered as a graduate chapter on July 9, 1982, Xi Nu Omega established The Monarch Awards Foundation in 1988. The Foundation is pleased to offer a scholarship of up to $3,000 to a graduate of a Chicago Metropolitan Area High School currently attending a

Must have obtained at least a Second Semester Freshman status at an accredited four-year HBCU

and be working on a first Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree

Must show proof of graduation from a Chicago Metropolitan Area High School

Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Must submit the following by April 16, 2012.

* Completed application form

* Two (2) copies of typed essay on given topic

* Two (2) letters of recommendation

* Official sealed college transcript with raised seal

 

 

Both female and male students are encouraged to apply for this scholarship. All applications and supporting materials must be postmarked no later than

On a separate sheet of paper, please respond to ONE of the following questions:

 

A. Select a creative work (a novel, a film, a poem, a musical piece, a painting or other work of art) that has influenced the way you view the world and the way you view yourself. Discuss the work and its effect on you.

 

B. If you were to protest something, for or against, what would it be and why?

 

Your essay must be 1-2 pages, and typed double-spaced in 12-point Arial or Times New Roman font. Your essay should include an introductory paragraph with a clearly stated thesis, supporting paragraphs that develop the thesis, and a concluding paragraph that brings closure to the topic.

Essays will be evaluated on clarity, organization, development, sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation, among other features.

Please include two (2) copies of your essay with your application.

Joshua David Gardner Memorial Scholarship Endowment Save Scholarship/Grant was established in June 2007 to provide scholarships to undergraduates attending historically black colleges and universities. 
 

The Ralph W. Shrader Diversity Scholarship was developed to provide educational opportunities for talented individuals pursuing advanced degrees at the master's level and to acknowledge and honor the unique contributions of Dr. Ralph W. Shrader, the only AFCEA Chairman of the Board to be elected to two different two-year terms. Dr. Shrader championed increased opportunities for women and minorities in the communications and electronics fields. 
 


VADM Samuel L. Gravely, Jr., USN (Ret.) Memorial Scholarship --- scholarships of $5,000 will be awarded to full-time students pursuing an undergraduate degree in an eligible major and currently enrolled in an accredited Historically Black College or University (HBCU) institution in the United States. Distance-learning or online programs affiliated with one of these institutions are eligible. Candidates must be at least second-year college students, enrolled full time as sophomores or juniors at the time of application.

Scholarships for The University of Pittsburgh Post-Bac in the Health Sciences – For students who will graduate and who are interested in biomedical graduate training.  This program will help prepare students for graduate school, and will provide a rich, mentored, funded research experience prior to application.  The UPIRTA (University of Pittsburgh Intramural Research Training Award) includes 2 research pathways, one in autism and the other in Antibiotic resistant infectious disease.  Preference is given to Cheyney students!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  For more information, visit http://www.healthdiversity.pitt.edu/programs/upirta.php.

 
Scholarships for Graduate School Entrance Exam Coursework – Most graduate programs require applicants to take a standardized exam, such as the GRE, LSAT, MCAT or GMAT.  The KHA is offering scholarships to a limited number of students who show serious interest in graduate school placement, but who would like additional assistance preparing for the entrance exam required.  No field restrictions.  For additional information, please contact Dr. Tara Kent at tkent@cheyney.edu or (610) 399-2386.
 
 
The HBCU STEM Fellowship Program - Provides fellowships and stipends to graduates of Historically Black Colleges and Universities to pursue Master’s level programs in STEM areas of study at colleges and universities in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware or Washington, DC. STEM refers to the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, but does not include majors linked to medical fields.  Several CU graduates are currently recipients of this fellowship!!! For more information visit www.NMSFP.org and www.gradopp.org
