LUBERTA TEAGLE ENON/CHEYNEY UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP #1

This scholarship is available only to Cheyney University students who are member of the Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church.

This $1000 non-renewable scholarship is sponsored by Enon Cheyney Association and
named for the late Sister Luberta Teagle, a former Enon member and Cheyney alumni. This scholarship is available to a current full-time student attending Cheyney University.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:
• Submit a completed application data form
• An official transcript from your college registrar must be sent directly to the Scholarship Ministry
• Submit a resume
• ETBC member for a period of one (1) year as of September 1, 2012
• Submit a completed Church Ministries & college extra-curricula activities
• Minimum academic GPA of 2.5 or more
• Submit a completed Church Ministries & college extra-curricula activities
• Submit an essay, not to exceed 200 words, on the topic “How I Can Contribute to the Cheyney University Legacy”
• NOTE: This scholarship is also available preferably to a high school senior, but consideration will be given to a current undergraduate

IES Abroad Diversity Scholarships

Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Scholarships

AWARD
A $2,000 scholarship will be awarded as follows:

$1,500 credit toward the IES Abroad program fee
$500 reimbursement toward the purchase of an overseas airline ticket for the IES Abroad program. You must present a valid, overseas airline ticket receipt in order to receive the $500 reimbursement.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to students who attend an HBCU that is a Member or Associate member of the IES Abroad consortium and that transfers at least 75% of home school aid to IES. Abroad Student must have applied to and attend an IES Abroad fall, spring, academic year or calendar year program.

Return Requirement: If awarded one of these scholarships, at the conclusion of the IES Abroad program you agree to submit a 1-page statement about your experience abroad, including how it has affected you personally, professionally, and academically and how this scholarship supported your endeavors. Once submitted, this statement becomes property of IES Abroad and excerpts may be used in any/all IES Abroad electronic and printed publications.

Ron Brown Scholar Program...

The Ron Brown Scholar Program seeks to identify African-American high school seniors who will make significant contributions to society. Applicants must excel academically, exhibit exceptional leadership potential, participate in community service activities and demonstrate financial need. The applicant must be a US citizen or hold a permanent resident visa card. Current college students are not eligible to apply.

Each year, a minimum of ten students will be designated Ron Brown Scholars and will receive $10,000 annually for four years, for a total of $40,000. The recipients may use the renewable scholarships to attend an accredited four-year college or university of their choice within the United States. Ron Brown Scholarships are not limited to any specific field or career objective and may be used to pursue any academic discipline. More than 250 students have been designated as Ron Brown Scholars since the inception of the Program.

Ron Brown Scholars are selected in the spring prior to entering college. Applications are screened during the month of February by Ron Brown Scholar Program staff. In March, finalists are invited to participate in a weekend selection process in Washington, D.C. at the expense of the CAP Charitable Foundation. Finalists are interviewed by members of the Ron Brown Selection Committee and are expected to participate in several Selection Weekend activities. Scholarship winners are selected on the basis of their applications, interviews and participation in Selection Weekend activities. Notification follows immediately.

Application Deadline

The Ron Brown Scholar Program currently has two deadlines for applications (students must be current high school seniors at the time of their application):

November 1st - application will be considered for the Ron Brown Scholar Program AND forwarded to a select and limited number of additional scholarship providers.

January 9th - final postmarked deadline in order to be considered for only the Ron Brown Scholar Program ONLY.

Application materials must be mailed in one packet. Transcripts and letters of recommendation should not be sent under separate cover. Incomplete, e-mailed or faxed applications will not be considered.

Due to the volume of applications received, the Ron Brown Scholar Program can only notify semi-finalists and finalists of their status in the competition. This notification will be made in February and March. Winners of the scholarship will be notified by April 1st and names will be posted on the Ron Brown Scholar Program web site in late April/early May.

Scholarship Conditions

Ron Brown Scholarships may be used to supplement benefits from the college or university a student plans to attend and from other foundations or organizations. Scholars may use the scholarship to cover the costs of tuition, fees, books, room and board, computers, health insurance, and other college-related expenses.

CBC Spouses Education Scholarship

This scholarship fund was established in response to federal cuts in spending for education programs and scholarships. This is the foundation's first educational program. The CBC Spouses Education scholarship is a national program that awards scholarships to academically talented and highly motivated students who intend to pursue full-time undergraduate, graduate or doctoral degrees. The Educational Scholarship Fund was established in 1988 and has experienced substantial growth. Recipients for this program are selected through volunteers in the district offices of the members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC). This scholarship program focusing on health was established in 1998 as the CBC partnered with the naming sponsor, General Mills, to increase the number of minority students pursuing degrees in the fields of medicine, engineering, technology, nutrition and other health-related professions. Since the inception of the program, General Mills has invested more than $1,000,000 to underwrite this initiative. The General Mills Health Scholarship has served hundreds of students over the years, and has helped to create leaders in the medical and health related fields.

Established in the year 2000, the CBC Spouses Heineken USA Performing Arts scholarship program was developed in honor of the late Curtis Mayfield to ensure that students pursuing a career in the performing arts receive the financial assistance to achieve their goals. The performing arts include drama, music, dance, opera, marching bands and other musical ensembles.

CBCF Louis Stokes Health Scholars Program

Deadline: March 29, 2012
The Louis Stokes Health Scholars program, sponsored by the United Health Foundation, seeks to increase the number of qualified, yet underrepresented, college students entering the health workforce. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate an interest to work in underserved communities. Students currently attending two-year institutions are strongly encouraged to apply.

Eligibility

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal U.S. residents who have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Applicants must also be currently enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or technical school. The anticipated degree must be in a subject that will lead to a career in a health field. The ideal candidate is a student at a two-year institution who plans to complete a four-year degree and seek work in an underserved community. Additionally, the candidate will demonstrate financial need. CBCF Environmental Studies Scholarship

The Environmental Studies Scholarship seeks to provide financial awards to minority and women college students pursuing a degree in environmental science or other related fields of study. Applicants should have a junior class standing in college with a declared major in environmental science or a related field, and understanding and acceptance of ServiceMaster's core values. This scholarship offers $5,000 per semester to two students.

Eligibility
Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal U.S. residents who have a minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Urban League of Philadelphia Community Scholarship Program Application

Each year, The Urban League of Philadelphia (ULP) awards scholarships to students pursuing college degrees. Students entering or currently attending colleges or universities are encouraged to apply for all the scholarships for which they are eligible. The scholarships are intended to supplement funding for deserving students and payments are made directly to the college or university upon receipt of documentation confirming enrollment.

Applications, certifications and letters of recommendation are due on March 9, 2012 (this deadline will be extended, so please apply!) at the offices of The Urban League of Philadelphia. Students will be notified by The Urban League of Philadelphia via e-mail by April 15, 2012 (if no e-mail address is available, notification will be made by US mail).

About the Foundation: The Finch College Alumnae Association Foundation makes it possible for today's women to continue college and begin preparing for professional careers. The Foundation is a non-profit organization under 501(c)(3). Funds for programs are raised through generous donations by our alumnae, annual dues and fundraising events held throughout the year.

About the Awards: Several one-time $2000 grants are awarded, which may be used for tuition, fees, books, and /or equipment required for course instruction. The award may not be used for graduate study.

Who is Eligible to Apply?

Current second year female students aged 22 and above, who are enrolled in a community college

in the states of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, and who have maintained a 3.5 point

average.

Jeannette Rankin Foundation Scholarships

About the Foundation: Jeannette Rankin, the first woman elected to the U.S. Congress, was an advocate of women’s rights. A bequest from Rankin’s estate provided the seed money for establishing the Jeannette Rankin Women’s Scholarship Fund (JRF). Since 1978, JRF has been awarding scholarships to low-income adult women who have a vision of how a college education will benefit themselves, their families, and their communities.

About the Scholarships: The scholarships may be used for tuition, books, transportation, childcare and other living expenses, and will be disbursed over two school terms, starting in Fall 2012.

Selection is competitive, which means that meeting the eligibility requirements does not guarantee that you will receive a scholarship. In 2011, JRF awarded 40 new scholarships from 860 applications.

WILLIAM D. GREENLEE SCHOLARSHIP– NEW for 2012-13
The William D. Greenlee Scholarship was founded by Greenlee Partners to honor William (Bill) Greenlee, founder of the firm. Mr. Greenlee had more than 45 years experience in government, public relations and journalism. Early in his career he worked as a print, radio and TV reporter which led to his involvement in politics and government.

Among his numerous accomplishments throughout his vast and elaborate career, Mr. Greenlee’s was most proud of his service to the community through a number of local charities including serving as Chair of the PASSHE Foundation Board of Directors until his death in 2010. The William D. Greenlee Scholarship is a fitting tribute to a gentleman who gave generously of himself to help others.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at one of the 14 Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) universities majoring in political science, journalism or communications. Applicants must have earned 60 credits or more and a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Demonstrated financial need based on standard need analysis from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid will be a consideration.

Number of Awards and Amount
For 2012-13 academic year, four (4) $2,500 scholarships are available. Scholarships recipients will be awarded $1,250 per semester providing they are full-time students and maintain the required 3.0 GPA. These scholarships are one-time awards and recipients are eligible to receive funding for one year only.

Student Requirements
Complete the William D. Greenlee Scholarship Application which is included with this memo and will also be posted on the Foundation’s website www.thepafoundation.org. Provide two written references: one reference from a professor in the applicant’s area of study and one personal reference from an individual not related to the applicant. Prepare a 500-word essay on the following quote from Tom Brokaw: “It’s easy to make a buck. It’s a lot tougher to make a difference.”
Include an official transcript with the application packet.

Selection Procedure
The selection committee is comprised of a representative from Greenlee Partners,
one PASSHE appointee, two members of the PASSHE Foundation’s Scholarship Committee and the Foundation’s Director of Scholarship Programs. The committee will review, evaluate and select the winners from all eligible applications received. The scholarship recipients and their universities will be notified by the Foundation. Unsuccessful applicants will also receive notification.

HIGHMARK SCHOLARSHIPS
For the fourth consecutive year, Highmark is funding 140 Highmark Scholarships (10 per university) through a generous gift to the PASSHE Foundation. As in previous years, these scholarships are limited to incoming freshmen at PASSHE universities who reside in Pennsylvania and are pursuing a degree in the field of healthcare including, but not limited to: nursing, physician assistant, pre-physician assistant, pre-medicine, biology, health science, audiology, speech pathology, medical imagery, physical therapy, health education, exercise science, health services administration, etc.

Amount Awarded
Scholarship recipients will receive a one-time award of $1,000 ($500 per semester). If a student withdraws after one semester, the remaining scholarship money may be awarded to another student that meets the criteria.

Selection/Notification Process
As in past years, the university scholarship committee or other appropriate entity at the university will be responsible for selecting the ten scholarship recipients and notifying the recipients and the Foundation of the awards. All recipients must be Pennsylvania residents and are required to permit the Foundation and Highmark to use his/her photograph, quotations and other information in promotional materials if requested.

Deadline
The names, addresses and majors of the selected students must be sent to me at the PASSHE Foundation by June 15, 2012.

M&T BANK SCHOLARSHIP
M&T Bank is funding nine (9) $1,000 scholarships that will be awarded to incoming freshmen that demonstrate financial need based on standard need analysis from the FAFSA application. Eligible students are required to complete an application form and write an essay.

Eligibility
Student must reside in one of the following counties: Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Juniata, Mifflin and Perry. Student must be accepted as a full-time student at one of the 14 Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education universities. Student must be from a low-to-moderate income family and need financial assistance to attend college. Student must show academic promise – top 25% of his/her high school graduating class and a high school GPA of 3.0 or better.

Amount Awarded
Each selected student will receive a one-year total award of $1,000 ($500 per semester). The student must remain a full-time student in good academic standing to receive the spring semester award.

Student Requirements
Complete the M&T Bank Scholarship Application which is included with this memo and will also be posted on the Foundation’s website www.thepafoundation.org . Submit an essay of approximately 500 words on the following topic: How this scholarship will help you meet your education and career goals.

STEPHEN AND SANDY SHELLER SCHOLARSHIP
Funded by the Sheller Family Foundation, Stephen and Sandy Sheller Scholarships are available to students at PASSHE universities that are pursuing degrees leading to careers in law, social services or art therapy. Mr. Sheller is the founding partner of Sheller, P.C., and has spent his life advocating for the rights of the underdog and fighting corruption in industry and with the drug companies. Mrs. Sheller is an art and family therapist and a Licensed Professional Counselor who has worked primarily with at-risk families and children and homeless families.

Mr. and Mrs. Sheller are widely recognized and honored for their philanthropy and for their commitment to improve the lives of families and individuals particularly through their work with the Salvation Army. In 2007, Mrs. Sheller was recognized by both the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and Senate for exemplary, dedicated service to homeless families. She also received The Others Award from the Salvation Army for her extraordinary dedication and service to the lives of others.

Eligibility
Applicants must be enrolled as full-time students at one of the 14 Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) universities pursuing an undergraduate degree leading to a career in law, social services or art therapy. Selection Procedure

The Stephen and Sandy Sheller Scholarship Committee is comprised of representatives from the PASSHE Foundation and the PASSHE Office of the Chancellor. The selection process is

JAMES M. HUGHES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
In order to apply for a James Hughes Memorial Scholarship, graduating seniors from Philadelphia public and charter high schools must have participated in the James Hughes Memorial Leadership Academy (Leadership Academy) that is administered by the Hughes Scholarship Committee.

In early spring, the Hughes Scholarship Committee will distribute James Hughes Scholarship applications to all graduating seniors that participated in the Leadership Academy. The Hughes Scholarship Committee will select the new scholarship recipients from that pool of applicants.
Hughes Scholarship students are eligible to receive $750/per semester for four year (or eight semesters) as long as they maintain a 2.0 average, are in good standing with the university and provide the necessary documents requested each semester by the Hughes Scholarship Committee.

Each semester, the Foundation will receive notification of all Hughes scholars eligible to receive funding and the Foundation will notify the universities’ financial aid offices.

Renewal eligibility criteria:
Full-time student status
GPA of at least 2.0.
Renewal students must submit a transcript to the Hughes Scholarship Committee for the preceding semester and any other documents the Committee may request. (For example, students must provide their spring 2012 transcript before they can receive scholarship funds for the Fall 2012 semester.) Failure to provide these documents may result in the student losing his/her scholarship.
Good standing with the university

Withdrawals/Transfers
If a student withdraws from the university, the student FORFEITS the scholarship. If a student withdraws for a semester in the case of a medical emergency that is approved by the university, the Hughes Committee will determine if the scholarship commitment will be met when the student returns.

If a student transfers to another university, the scholarship does NOT follow the student to the new university.

FITZ DIXON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Founded by APSCUF, PASSHE, the PASSHE Foundation and Dixon family members, this scholarship honors the memory of the late F. Eugene “Fitz” Dixon, Jr. Mr. Dixon was a highly respected civic leader, sportsman, and a founding member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Board of Governors.

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to students that attend one of the 14 PASSHE universities. Applicants for this scholarship must demonstrate academic excellence, voluntary service within the community at home and at their university, and financial need as determined by their FAFSA applications.

Eligibility
Applicants must be enrolled at one of the 14 PASSHE universities pursuing
an undergraduate or a graduate degree. Undergraduate student applicants must have passed 45 credits at a PASSHE university with at least a 3.0 GPA. Graduate student applicants must have passed at least nine (9) credits at a PASSHE university with at least a 3.5 GPA. Official transcripts must accompany all applications. Applicants must show financial need based on standard need analysis from the FAFSA application.

Student Requirements
Complete the Fitz Dixon Memorial Scholarship Program Application and the Volunteer
Services Verification Form that is attached and can be found on the Foundation’s website www.thepafoundation.org . Submit two (2) written references. One (1) reference must be from a PASSHE university faculty member, not related to the applicant and one from a personal reference,
Submit evidence of community and university involvement. Evidence must include, but is not limited to position responsibilities, hours worked, and quantification from an upper level supervisor.
Include a typewritten essay of approximately 500 words (maximum 800) on the following topic: Volunteerism: The Cornerstone of Civic Responsibility.

Number of Awards and Amount Awarded

The scholarship(s) will be awarded based on the amount of interest earned on the Fitz Dixon Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund. Scholarships will be awarded each year, although contingent upon funds available. There will be two $500 scholarships available for the fall 2012 semester.

Selection Procedure
The Fitz Dixon Memorial Scholarship Committee is comprised of one APSCUF appointee, one
student member of the Board of Governors, one PASSHE appointee, one member of the Dixon family and one representative from the PASSHE Foundation.

This Committee will review, evaluate and select the winner(s) from all eligible applications received. In no case shall any member of the Committee take part in the consideration of an applicant if that applicant is part of the Committee member’s immediate or extended family or if a Committee member submits a reference letter on behalf of an applicant.
The scholarship winner(s) and his/her university will receive a letter from the Foundation notifying them of the scholarship award.

DR. AND MRS. ARTHUR WILLIAM PHILLIPS SCHOLARSHIP
The purpose of this scholarship is to provide recognition and financial assistance to students of seven counties of northwestern Pennsylvania enrolled or planning to enroll in PASSHE universities who have academic promise and proven need for financial assistance to meet college expenses.

Eligibility
This scholarship is available for full-time, incoming freshmen students at a PASSHE university. First preference should be given to students whose home address of record is Butler, Clarion, Forest, Jefferson, Lawrence, Mercer or Venango counties. In the event that there are no qualified students from these counties, the scholarship may be awarded to any student that is a Pennsylvania resident.
Students must have a record of academic success and proven financial need based on university criteria. These scholarships are to be awarded to students attending PASSHE universities that do not have an endowed scholarship fund established by the Dr .and Mrs. Arthur William Phillips Charitable Trust.

Amount Awarded
Maximum awards of $1,000 ($500 for the fall semester and $500 for the spring semester) will be made to selected students. Please note that the universities are required to provide a matching award of $1,000.

Selection/Notification Procedure
Recipients of this scholarship are selected by the appropriate scholarship committees of the PASSHE universities. The Foundation must be notified of Phillips scholarships recipients by June 15, 2012.

The number of available scholarships is limited. Scholarships are awarded annually from available earnings from the Dr. and Mrs. Arthur William Phillips Scholarship Endowment Fund. There are three (3) scholarships available for the 2012-13 academic year.

NATIONAL CITY BANK SCHOLARSHIP
The 2012-13 academic year is the final year for the National City Bank Scholarships. There are 14 (one per university) National Bank City Scholarships available for 2012-13. These scholarships are one-year awards and are only available to incoming freshmen.

All 14 scholarships must be distributed in the 2012-2013 academic year; therefore, if a university does not award its scholarship, that scholarship will be offered to another university(s).

Eligibility
These one-time scholarships are limited to low-income, incoming freshmen that reside in the following counties: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Clearfield, Crawford, Erie, Fayette, Greene, Jefferson, Lawrence, McKean, Mercer, Venango, Warren, Washington and Westmoreland.
Student must be accepted for admission at a PASSHE university. Student must have demonstrated financial need as determined by the FAFSA with family income at or below 200 percent of the FPIG.
Students are to be selected on academic promise – top 30% of their graduating class, a high school GPA of 2.7 or better and an SAT total score of 1,000 or better.

Amount of Awards
Each selected student will receive a one-year total award of $1,500 ($750 per semester).

Selection/Notification
The scholarship committees at PASSHE universities are responsible for selecting qualified students and notifying the Foundation and the students of their award. Please provide the name and address of the student at your university to whom you would like to award the scholarship. The deadline for submission is June 15, 2012.

DR. LOU BOHL-FABIAN MEMORIAL FUND – New for 2012-13
Dr. Lou Bohl-Fabian started his career with the PA State System of Higher Education as the Director of Evaluation, Planning, Research and Assessment at Lock Haven University beginning in 1988. He became Director of System Research in 1996 and collected, analyzed and interpreted information and data on PASSHE universities to support management decision making. He remained in that position until his death in 2007.

To commemorate his dedication to research, his love of the environment/outdoors and his belief in the importance of advanced degrees, family, friends and colleagues established the Dr. Lou Bohl-Fabian Memorial Fund.

Purpose
This fund will be used to provide “special funding” such as grants or stipends to graduate students at PASSHE universities that are pursuing advanced degrees in research, the environment/outdoors, political science or the arts –all areas of special interest to Dr. Bohl-Fabian. Examples of funding include but are not limited to:

Providing travel expenses for a student to present a paper
Funding for a project
Funding special research
Sponsoring a special program
Attending conferences

Eligibility
Graduate students at PASSHE universities that are involved in studies focused on research, the environment/outdoors, political science or the arts are eligible to apply. All applicants must have GPA of 3.5 or better. In addition, an official transcript must accompany the application.

Funding Levels
The stipend or grant funding will be considered and determined on a case-by-case basis depending on funds available in the account. No single grant or stipend will exceed $1,000.

Number of Awards
The number of awards will vary depending on available funds and dollar amount of the funded requests.

The Foundation will also work with the appropriate faculty at PASSHE universities to make students aware of the funding opportunity. All applicants must complete an application, which is included with this memo, accompanied by an official transcript. All applications must be received by the Foundation at least 60 days prior to the date the funding is needed.

Cheyney University is pleased to announce that an anonymous donor from the Class of 1958 has generously agreed to offer scholarships to seniors who are graduating in May 2012 who have a back balance or unmet need for the Spring 2012 semester.

This is a one-time, need-based scholarship, with a maximum award of $5,000. There are no restrictions in terms of GPA, residency or major.

CU North Carolina Alumni Chapter Book Award - Spring 2012

Purpose of the Award – To provide three (3) students with a book award in the amount of $400 for the Spring 2012 semester.

Application Process – Applicants must provide all of the information requested on the application form and return it to the Alumni Relations Office prior to the specified date. Application forms will be available in the Alumni Relations Office and on the University’s website.

Selection Process – Applicants must be currently enrolled at Cheyney University and have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Applications will be reviewed in consultation with the Alumni Relations Office and the North Carolina Alumni Chapter. Applications which are incomplete and/or received after the deadline will not be considered.

Payment of Award – The North Carolina Alumni Chapter will send the funds to the Cheyney University Alumni Scholarship Fund where they will be placed in a restricted account for the awards. Once the student recipients are identified, the Alumni Office will advise the Scholarship Committee and Financial Aid Office to set up an account in the book store in each student’s name, and the student will receive a voucher to purchase the books.

Note: Students agree they are required to provide a copy of the receipt from the book store to verify their book purchases or they will forfeit the book award.

The grant fund has been established to pay tribute to a wonderful man, a talented musician and an inspirational church leader. The grant fund has been created and sustained by friends, family, and members of the community.

MCCA (PA) will send the funds to the Cheyney Alumni Scholarship Fund where they will be placed in a restricted account for the awards.

Students are required to provide a copy of the receipt from the book store to verify their book purchases.

University of St. Thomas - MBA Scholarship Program for Minorities Save Scholarship/Grant

The University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business announced a new scholarship program targeting under-represented minorities. A total of 15 full-tuition scholarships – valued at $56,000 each at current tuition rates – will be awarded to improve access to the Full-time UST MBA Program and ensure a diverse learning environment for students. The new program, open to U.S. citizens and permanent U.S. residents who enroll in the two-year master’s degree beginning in Fall 2012, places an MBA education within financial reach for a broader segment of future leaders.

The National Black MBA Association, Inc. (NBMBAA) and National Society for Hispanic MBAs, Inc. (NSHMBA) will serve as promotional partners for the new program. Undergraduate institutions, businesses and other organizations are encouraged to share this opportunity with their under-represented minority students and young professionals.

Students can win scholarships through "Free to Tweet" campaign celebrating First Amendment rights

WASHINGTON — During a daylong online celebration of First Amendment rights, high school and college students nationwide can win one of 22 $5,000 scholarships through “Free to Tweet” on Dec. 15, the 220th anniversary of our right to free expression.

Beginning at midnight on Dec. 15, students ages 14 to 22 can tweet their support for the First Amendment with the hashtag #freetotweet, which will enter them in the “Free to Tweet” scholarship competition. Students are encouraged to freely express themselves in their entries, which can be posted on any publicly viewable social media platform, including blogs.

The initiative is funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and organized by 1 for All, an unprecedented educational and public service campaign that builds understanding of the First Amendment and its five distinct freedoms: speech, press, religion, assembly and petition.

The Knight Foundation's recently released "Future of the First Amendment" survey indicates that young people who use social media have a better understanding of First Amendment freedoms.

"It matters what young people say about the First Amendment because each generation re-interprets these fundamental rights, often using the latest tools and technologies,” said Michael Maness, vice president of journalism and media innovation for Knight Foundation. “Today's high school and college students are tomorrow's defenders of the First Amendment and all the other freedoms set forth in the Bill of Rights."

All Americans are urged to join the online celebration by tweeting their support for the First Amendment and help reinvigorate the often-overlooked Bill of Rights Day. In late November of 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt proclaimed Dec. 15 a national holiday on the 150th anniversary of the amendments’ adoption, declaring Americans “will not, under any threat … surrender the guarantee of liberty our forefathers framed for us in our Bill of Rights.” Just days later, Pearl Harbor was attacked and the United States entered World War II. The holiday declaration was largely forgotten.

“December 15 is the anniversary of the day America embraced the First Amendment and the entire Bill of Rights, but unfortunately it is all but forgotten as a national holiday,” said Ken Paulson, a founder of the 1 for All campaign and president of the American Society of News Editors. “Free to Tweet is a dynamic, multi-platform effort to rekindle appreciation for freedoms we dare not take for granted.”

Joining in support of 1 for All and the “Free to Tweet” campaign are such artists as Ke$ha, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, Jana Kramer, Joe Nichols, Mary Chapin Carpenter and The Civil Wars. Other celebrity tweeters will be announced in coming weeks.

Students can enter the scholarship competition by tweeting a message of support — using the hashtag #freetotweet — for the First Amendment. The tweet can be self-contained or link to original content on a website or other social media platform. A panel of educators and First Amendment experts will review the entries and award 22 $5,000 scholarships, one for every decade since the ratification of the Bill of Rights. Pennsylvania Postsecondary Educational Gratuity Program

This program honors individuals who lost their lives protecting the citizens of this Commonwealth by providing their children with a waiver of tuition, fees, and room and board charges. An act was signed into law that provides financial assistance to children of Pennsylvania police officers, firefighters, rescue or ambulance squad members, corrections facility employees or National Guard members who died in the line of duty after January 1, 1976.

This program provides a waiver of tuition, fees, and room and board costs charged by public postsecondary institutions. This waiver is only applied to charges that remain after all other grants (federal, state and outside scholarships) have been applied to your student account.

To qualify you must:
* Be a resident of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
* Be a child by birth or adoption of a deceased police officer, firefighter, rescue or ambulance squad member, corrections facility employee or active National Guard member who died after January 1, 1976, as a direct result of performing his or her official duties.
* Be a child by birth or adoption of a deceased sheriff, deputy sheriff, National Guard member or certain other individual who was on federal or state active military duty who died since September 11, 2001, as a direct result of performing his or her official duties.
* Be 25 years of age or younger at the time of application for the program.

Joshua David Gardner Memorial Scholarship Endowment Save Scholarship/Grant was established in June 2007 to provide scholarships to undergraduates attending historically black colleges and universities.

The Ralph W. Shrader Diversity Scholarship was developed to provide educational opportunities for talented individuals pursuing advanced degrees at the master's level and to acknowledge and honor the unique contributions of Dr. Ralph W. The purpose of The Philadelphia Chapter of the National Black MBA Association, Inc. scholarship is to offer financial assistance for tuition and other educational expenses to students enrolled in a business or management program. Main Line Chamber of Commerce's Gold Leaf Scholarship Application

Scholarship Background

The Main Line Chamber’s Annual Helena Devereux Women in Leadership Award is given out at the Gold Leaf Celebration to a Main Line female business leader in either a for-profit or non-profit organization operating in the Greater Main Line Region. Nominees have direct responsibility for the overall strength and viability of their business, proven accomplishments impacting the financial stability of her business, demonstrate exceptional leadership capabilities, have made significant contributions to the community and exhibit a strong commitment to improving the quality of the personal and professional lives of others.

This scholarship is intended for women who desire to become strong, community leaders and achieve many of the things aforementioned.

A student is eligible to be considered for Gold Leaf Scholarship if she:

Goldwater Scholarship for Juniors and Seniors pursuing careers in the STEM fields...

The Foundation will award undergraduate scholarships to outstanding students, in the spring of 2012 for use during the 2012–2013 academic year.

The awards will be made on the basis of merit to juniors and seniors who have outstanding potential and intend to pursue careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering.

Bill Gates Announces 2012 Scholarship Program for Low-Income Minority Students...

Gates' non-profit organization is giving away 1,000 scholarships for the 2012 school season. Bill Gates' Millennium Scholarship Program (GMS) will select 1,000 talented students next year to receive a good-through-graduation scholarship to use at any college or university of their choice.

Scholars will also be provided with personal and professional development through their leadership programs, along with academic support throughout their college career.

The program, funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established to provide outstanding low income minority students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any area of interest. To date, the program has given scholarships to more than 15,000 students.

Continuing scholars may request funding for a graduate degree program in one of the following disciplines: education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health or science.

This year, the Thurgood Marshall College Fund is offering a special Achieving College Completion by Ensuring Scholastic Success (ACCESS) scholarship that is only available to graduating seniors who demonstrate immediate financial need that cannot be met through other avenues.

To be eligible for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

* Expected graduation by December 2012
* Minimum 3.0 GPA
* Have an immediate financial need not exceeding $2,200

When applying, students must answer the following essay question- Why do you need this scholarship and how will it help you achieve your educational goals?

Scholarship for S.T.E.M. Students
$10,000 scholarship for the first year and $7,500 for the remaining three years will be given to students majoring in Science (computer, biology, chemistry, physics), Math or Engineering at Cheyney University.

Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Incoming freshmen must have a minimum SAT score of 1500 or a minimum ACT score of 20.

Students must be enrolled in full-time coursework, be in good standing and make continuous progress toward his/her degree of study. Students found to be in violation of CU’s Code of Conduct will not be eligible.

The award shall be directed towards the student’s attendance costs – tuition, room, board, books and fees. Apply using the CU General Scholarship Application, indicate STEM Scholarship on the form.

Application deadline has been extended to Sunday, August 28, 2011.

Attention CU General Scholarship Applicants:

Please note: once you submit a General Scholarship application, you will automatically be considered for any new scholarships that are posted. You do not have to resubmit an application for every new scholarship that is announced.

Due to the volume of applications received, the first-round of scholarship awards will be announced the week of August 22, 2011. Scholarship recipients will be notified via email and will be asked to sign a formal letter acknowledging the terms of the scholarship.

We are also pleased to announce the Ducky Birts Foundation Scholarship deadline has been extended to August 19, 2011, and a new scholarship --- the Lular Carson Estate Scholarship --- has been added to the list!

Please check the website frequently as additional scholarships will be posted on a rolling basis.

Ducky Birts Foundation Scholarship - Deadline extended to August 19, 2011

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
The Ducky Birts Foundation was established to provide educational programs and scholarships for youth in Philadelphia, PA and Camden, NJ. Scholarships are provided to students attending Cheyney University and Lincoln University.

These area institutions of higher education are not members of the United Negro College Fund which provides financial support to most historically African-American institutions. Yet, these local institutions have served, and continue to serve thousands upon thousands of residents in the Delaware Valley.

PURPOSE
To assist graduating high school seniors in continuing their post-secondary educational opportunities, despite financial roadblocks facing the next generation, and that education provides that opportunity to achieve that level of preparedness.

To that end, the Foundation is expanding its scholarship outreach to include additional students in the Philadelphia Delaware Valley area. This effort will be launched with the awarding of a $500 scholarship to eight (8) worthy and deserving students matriculated at Cheyney University as of September 2011.

The initial payment of $500 will be awarded at the beginning of the student’s fall semester. If additional funding is available, students may apply again for the spring semester.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicant must submit the following:

A completed application, accompanied by one’s high school transcript (for high school seniors) or college transcript (for students currently enrolled at Cheyney University).
Character references may be included from adults familiar with student’s non-academic activities, community involvement or leadership skills.

All students must maintain at least a “C” average and agree to attend the check presentation ceremony in mid- to late August.

DEADLINE

YWCA of Chester County Scholarship Foundation - Deadline August 31, 2011

THE PURPOSE of the YWCA of Chester County Scholarship Foundation is to award academic scholarships to non-traditional female students with aspirations to continue on to post-secondary institutions, including 2 year/4 year colleges or universities, or vocational/technical institutes, to further their education.

Michelle and Geri Vital Scholarship Fund
Two $1,000 scholarships will be given annually while Dr. Michelle Howard- Vital is President of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania to students who demonstrate leadership potential, and are enrolled in a full-time, four-year undergraduate degree program at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. To be eligible, graduating high school students must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), or, if college , a grade point average of 3.0 and a minimum SAT score of 900 to be eligible for the Michelle and Geri Vital Scholarship. The purpose of the award is intended to eliminate a gap in funding for expenses that students may have to pay out-of-pocket or borrow in order to attend Cheyney. That is, the scholarship should never result in a cash refund for the scholarship recipient. The Michelle and Geri Vital Scholarship is a onetime award. Apply using the CU General Scholarship Application, indicate “Vital Scholarship” on the form. Applications are due August 12, 2011.
Coleman Endowed Scholarship
Two $2,500 scholarships (per year per student) will be awarded competitively to one male and one female sophomore enrolled at Cheyney University who are Business Administration majors. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of a 3.0 to be considered, and the scholarships are awarded competitively to the highest performers. Awards are intended to decrease debt, and may reduce loans. No residency restrictions apply, international students may be considered. Students must be enrolled in full-time coursework, and make continuous progress toward their degree of study. The Fund shall be directed to direct costs, including tuition, fees, and books. The scholarship is renewable through the senior year, as long as the recipients maintain the required GPA (minimum GPA of a 3.0). Applications are due August 12, 2011.
Joyner Scholarship
Scholarships awarded competitively to the “best and brightest” deserving students who are enrolled in a full-time, four-year undergraduate degree program at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. The purpose of the award is intended to eliminate a gap in funding for expenses that students may have to pay out-of-pocket or borrow in order to attend Cheyney. That is, the scholarship may reduce loans, but should never result in a cash refund for the scholarship recipient. The scholarship is awarded competitively, and is a onetime award. Apply using the CU General Scholarship Application, indicate “Joyner Scholarship” on the form. Applications are due August 12, 2011.
Highmark Scholarship
This scholarship is limited to incoming freshmen at PASSHE universities pursuing a degree in a healthcare field, including, but not limited to: nursing, pre-physician assistant, pre-medicine, biology, health science, audiology, speech pathology, human services administration, health education, medical imagery and exercise science. The award is made competitively to the highest achieving students who meet the above criteria. The scholarship is a one-time award of $1,000. Apply using the CU General Scholarship Application, indicate “Highmark” on the form. Applications are due August 12, 2011.
Clarence Schock Foundation
Scholarships are awarded to first-time entering freshmen at Cheyney University who enroll full-time. Applicants must be a legal resident of one of the following Pennsylvania counties. Adams, Berks, Chester, Cumberland, Dauphin, Delaware, Lancaster, Labanon or York, and must be a graduate of a secondary school in one of these same counties. Awards will be made competitively to high achieving students who meet the above criteria. Awards are made at $1,200 per student per year, and are renewable through the senior year, contingent upon strong academic performance (minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA). Please complete the CU General Scholarship Application, indicate “Schock” on the form; additionally, please attach a completed Schock application. Applications are due August 12, 2011.
Dolores Elizabeth Howard Memorial Scholarship
Two $500 scholarships will be given to non-traditional students who demonstrate leadership potential, are enrolled at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, and are making continuous progress toward their degree of study. The award shall be used to cover books and fees only. The Dolores Elizabeth Howard Memorial Scholarship is a one-time award. Apply using the CU General Scholarship Application, indicate Howard Memorial Scholarship on the form. Application deadline is Friday, August 12, 2011.
Independence Foundation Scholarship
One $5,000 scholarship will be given to disadvantaged student with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. The scholarship is awarded competitively, and is a one-time award. Charles A. Highsmith, Sr. Education Scholarship
One $1,000 scholarship will be given to a student majoring in education, who plans to teach in urban schools. Applicants must have a minimum of a cumulative GPA of 2.7 to be considered and reside in Philadelphia, PA. Student must be enrolled in full-time coursework, and make continuous progress toward his/her degree of study. The award shall be directed towards the student’s attendance costs – tuition, room, board, books and fees. Montgomery County Cheyney Alumni (PA) Book Award - Deadline - September 9, 2011

Purpose of the Award - To provide two(2) students per semester with an award in the amount of $250 to go toward the purchase of books.

Application Process -

Applications will be available in the Alumni Relations Office in the spring for disbursement in the fall semester, and in the fall for disbursement in the spring semester.

Selection Process -

Applicants must complete the application form and return it to MCCCNAA prior to the specified date
Applicants must be currently enrolled in Cheyney and have a minimum 2.5 GPA
Applications will be reviewed by the MCCA (PA) and awards based on the applicants' explanation of why he/she should receive the award.

Payment of Award -

MCCA (PA) will send the funds to the Cheyney Alumni Scholarship Fund where they will be placed in a restricted account for the awards.
Once the student recipients are identified, the Alumni Office will advise the Finance Office to set up an account in the book store in each student's name, and the student will receive a voucher to purchase the books.
Students are required to provide a copy of the receipt from the book store to verify their book purchases.
