Master of Education in educational leadership

The program is designed to prepare administrators who are particularly sensitive to the needs of urban schools. The program will further delineate the conceptual, technical and human skills deemed necessary in the preparation of competent educational administrators.

The Master of Education in Educational Leadership degree requires a total of 42 credit hours, and 33 of these 42 credit hours are PDE approved requirements for your K-12 Principal Certificate (the remaining 9 credits complete your master's degree.  This will allow students to obtain a master degree in Educational Leadership and a principal certification if preferred.

The unique field experiences are embedded in seven core courses to further enhance the year round, practice-based internship courses. Successful program completers will possess exceptional, marketable leadership competencies.

Requirements for M.Ed. in Educational Leadership:

  • Professional Core - 9 semester hours

Requirements for Principal Certification Program:

  • Professional Core - 24 semester hours
  • Internship I,II, III, - 9 semester hours

Admission Requirements

  •  A $30 non-refundable admission fee
  • A complete application form
  • Evidence of a 4 year undergraduate degree
  • Grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale
  • Official sealed transcripts from all prior degree-granting colleges/universities attended
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation (one must be from your principal/administrator)
  • A writing sample of 500 words typed, double-spaced (writing prompt provided)
  • A copy of your teaching certificate
  • Criminal background clearances
Please Note: Admission to graduate studies is not the same as degree candidacy. You must apply for and be approved for advancement to candidacy when you have successfully completed 12 credit hours of course work with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better.
