2010-2011 Cheyney University Scholarships! 

All Cheyney University students are invited to submit applications for the below scholarship opportunities.  Submit the Cheyney Univeristy Scholarship Application Form financial-aid/documents/Application-Scholarships.docx and indicate the scholarship you wish to be considered for.  Applications are due July 30 and will be reviewed by a committee; awards are made on a competitive basis.  Please note that unless otherwise stated, Cheyney University Scholarships are annual awards, are not renewed, and are contingent upon a students' full-time enrollment at Cheyney University.   

  • Michelle and Geri Vital Scholarship Fund
    Two $1,000 scholarships will be given annually while Dr. Michelle Howard- Vital is President of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania to students who demonstrate leadership potential, have insufficient funds to pay for tuition, and are enrolled in a full-time, four-year undergraduate degree program at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. To be eligible, graduating high school students must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), and a minimum SAT score of a 900 (math+verbal) or, if a current college student, a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 to be eligible for the Michelle and Geri Vital Scholarship. The purpose of the award is intended to eliminate a gap in funding for expenses that students may have to pay out-of-pocket or borrow in order to attend Cheyney. That is, the scholarship should never result in a cash refund for the scholarship recipient; awards may reduc loans. The Michelle and Geri Vital Scholarship is a one time award. Apply using the CU General Scholarship Application, indicate “Vital Scholarship” on the form.
  • Joyner Scholarship
    Scholarships awarded competitively to high achieving students who are enrolled in a full-time, four-year undergraduate degree program at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. Students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 to be considered, and out of state students will be given first preference (international students may also apply). The purpose of the award is intended to eliminate a gap in funding for expenses that students may have to pay out-of-pocket or borrow in order to attend Cheyney. That is, the scholarship may reduce loans, but should never result in a cash refund for the scholarship recipient. The scholarship is a one time award. Apply using the CU General Scholarship Application, indicate “Joyner Scholarship” on the form.
     
  • Cheyney University Merit Scholarships
    Scholarships awarded competitively to high achieving students who are enrolled in a full-time, four-year undergraduate degree program at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. Students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 to be considered, no residency restrictions apply. The purpose of the award is intended to eliminate a gap in funding for expenses that students may have to pay out-of-pocket or borrow in order to attend Cheyney. That is, the scholarship may reduce loans, but should never result in a cash refund for the scholarship recipient. The scholarship is a onetime award. Apply using the CU General Scholarship Application, indicate “Merit Scholarship” on the form.
     
  • PSECU Scholarship
    Scholarships awarded competitively to high achieving students who are enrolled in a full-time, four-year undergraduate degree program at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, and who are members of PSECU. Students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 to be considered. The scholarship is a onetime award. Apply using the CU General Scholarship Application, indicate “PSECU Scholarship” on the form. Two $500 awards will be made for the 2010-2011 academic year, and awards may be made towards a students’ cost of attendance.
     
  • Ed Bradley Scholarship
    The Ed Bradley Scholarship is named in honor of Ed Bradley, distinguished Cheyney University alumnus and former host of “60 Minutes.” One $760 scholarship will be awarded competitively to a high achieving student who is a mass communication major (with an interest in TV and/or journalism) is enrolled full-time, and making continuous progress in the four-year undergraduate degree program at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. The scholarship is a one time award. Apply using the CU General Scholarship Application, indicate “Ed Bradley Scholarship” on the form. One $760 award will be made for the 2010-2011 academic year, and awards may be made towards a students’ cost of attendance.
     
  • Vaux Scholarship
    The Vaux Scholarship is competitively awarded high achieving students who are Graphic Design majors who are enrolled full-time, and making continuous progress in the four-year undergraduate degree program at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. Students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 to be considered. The scholarship is a one time award. Apply using the CU General Scholarship Application, indicate “Vaux Scholarship” on the form. Awards may be made towards a students’ cost of attendance.
     
  • Book Scholarships
    Scholarships awarded competitively to high achieving students who are enrolled in a full-time, four-year undergraduate degree program at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. Students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 to be considered, no residency restrictions apply. The purpose of the award is intended to assist students with the costs to buy the necessary books and supplies to attend Cheyney University. Two $1500 ($750 per a semester) scholarships will be awarded. The scholarship may reduce loans, and be applied to the student’s cost of attendance. The scholarship is a onetime award. Apply using the CU General Scholarship Application, indicate “Book Scholarship” on the form.

  • The Pennsylvania House of Representatives Scholarship Program
    The Pennsylvania House of Representatives’ Scholarship Program is open to all college-bound high school seniors who plan to attend a Pennsylvania college, university or career school. Two scholarships are awarded per year and can be renewed for up to four years of college. The award consists of the value of one semester of tuition at a State System of Higher Education school (approximately $2,500), but scholarship recipients may attend any Pennsylvania public or private post-secondary institution. Students may also be eligible to receive matching funds from SAGE Scholars, Inc. (Savings and Growth for Education) and the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency’s (PHEAA) PATH Program.

  • The CORE Philly Scholarship Program
    The College Opportunity Resources for Education (CORE) Scholarship is available only to high school seniors. To qualify, you must be a resident of the city of Philadelphia, along with at least one parent or legal guardian, and must be a graduate of a Philadelphia public, charter, archdiocese, or private high school. Additionally, you must be pursuing either an associate's or a bachelor's degree at one of the participating institutions of higher education.

  • HBCU STEM Fellowship Program - The Historically Black College or University (HBCU) Fellowship Program is offered to students who have graduated from a HBCU on or after January 1, 2008 and gain admission into Masters’ level programs in STEM areas of study at colleges and universities in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware or Washington, DC .
    STEM refers to the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics but does not include majors linked to direct patient care. In addition to financial support the program provides retention-related supportive services to nurture the next generation of scientists, researchers and engineers.
    Applicants accepted into the program may receive up to $77,000 for tuition, fees, academic and living expenses for two years. In addition there is no residency requirements except the applicants must be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S. This Fellowship Program is administered by the Educational Advancement Alliance (EAA) and sponsored by the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), a U.S. Department of Energy agency.

  • James Hughes Memorial Scholarship Fund
    This scholarship has been founded by friends and family to honor the memory of the late James
    Hughes of Philadelphia, a beloved and respected leader of his community and a founding member
    of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) Board of Governors.
    The purpose of this program is to provide recognition and financial assistance to low-income,
    disadvantaged students residing in the city of Philadelphia, who attend any of the public high
    schools or charter schools in the School District of Philadelphia and who wish to enroll in
    universities of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. The students chosen for the
    scholarship should have demonstrated their ability and desire to achieve academically despite
    adversities and should have need for funds to meet their necessary college expenses. The awards
    are “last-dollar” scholarships and not to replace other scholarships or grants.

  • Black Employee Network (BEN) Scholarship Program
    The mission of the Union Pacific Railroad Black Employee Network (BEN) is to recruit, retain and advance the careers of African-American employees within Union Pacific by promoting and facilitating both personal and professional growth, and by working with Union Pacific Senior Leadership toward an awareness of diversity issues.
    The Union Pacific Railroad Black Employee Network Jerry Morris and Summer Houston Memorial Scholarship is a $500 or $1000 award to assist African American Students in defraying the cost of higher education. Recipients are chosen on the basis of scholastic ability and leadership. Personal or family financial situations can be a factor in consideration of eligibility and in awarding the scholarship.     With the support of The Home Depot, the American Advertising Federation's Mosaic Center on Multiculturalism will award fourteen (14) $5,000 scholarships to deserving minority students majoring in advertising, marketing or communications. As college sophomores and juniors, these students should exhibit the potential to become one of AAF's Most Promising Minority Students by their senior year.

  • Coast Guard Announces HBCU Student Scholarship
    Imagine having your college junior and senior years fully funded. Now imagine getting a salary while you complete your college degree.
    That's what the College Student Pre-Commissioning Initiative (CSPI) program offers college sophomores and juniors.
    CSPI provides students with valuable leadership, management, law enforcement, navigation and marine science skills and training. It also provides full payment of school tuition, fees, textbooks, salary, medical insurance, and other benefits during a student's junior and senior year of college. The CSPI program's goal is to train future officers for success and prepare them for the rigors of Officer Candidate School (OCS).
    Each student is expected to complete his/her degree and all Coast Guard training requirements within 24 months after acceptance into the program. Following successful completion of OCS, the students will be commissioned as Coast Guard officers, committed to 3 years of active duty service.

  • Computer Science and Computer Engineering Scholarships - Undergraduate Academic Award

  • APTF Shirley A. DeLibero Scholarship
    We are proud to announce the availability of the first Shirley A. DeLibero Scholarship. The scholarship, offered by the American Public Transportation Foundation, was created in honor of Ms. DeLibero's outstanding contributions to the field of transportation and will be awarded to an African-American student dedicated to a career in public transportation.
    Eligible applicants must be a college sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student enrolled at a fully accredited academic institution, and possess at least a 3.0 GPA (B) in a transportation-related field of study.
