The Tom Joyner Foundation, a major driving force in raising money for historically black colleges since 1998, has kicked off a three-month long fundraising drive for Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, the nation’s oldest institution of higher learning for African Americans.

On December 23, 2011, President Obama signed into law the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2012 (Public Law 112-74). The new law significantly impacts the Federal student aid programs authorized under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended (HEA).

July 10, 2012-- Cheyney University received word late Monday that The Board of Governors of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) has approved a 3 percent tuition increase for the 2012-13 academic year. The decision also reflects its commitment to the Legislature and the governor, and marks the fifth time in eight years the increase has been either at or below the rate of inflation.

BlackStudents.com, a popular online resource for African American high school and college students, has published their annual listing of 2011 scholarship opportunities. The scholarships vary in criteria, award amounts, and deadline dates, but are available from over 100 different companies, organizations, and foundations.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), nineteen Cheyney University students will receive the Bond-Hill Scholarship for the 2010-2011 academic year. A total of twenty-eight scholarships were awarded this year.
