Mellanie Kai Lassiter
Mellanie Kai Lassiter has a progressive track record with over 15 years experience in philanthropic and nonprofit positions in the Greater Philadelphia area. Her success in building relationships, program development and working effectively with corporate and civic leaders has catapulted her to a leader in corporate social responsibility initiatives. Beyond her professional experience, Mellanie enjoys choir directing, singing and reading. She also loves tasting a wide variety of fine foods and considers herself and amateur food critic.
As Corporate Contributions Manager in the Office of Corporate Relations for PECO Energy Company in Philadelphia, Mellanie Lassiter manages corporate contributions and corporate citizenship programs for PECO including grants, related benefits and employee participation in community events throughout Philadelphia and the surrounding counties. Lassiter previously served as PECO’s Community Relations Manager, where she was responsible for grassroots community partnerships and employee volunteer management. Mellanie represents PECO and serves as the principal liaison to a large network of civic, governmental, non-profit, and community-based nonprofit organizations.
Prior to her employment at PECO, she served as Community Reinvestment Act Officer for ING Bank in Wilmington, Delaware responsible for business strategy and performance related to the corporation’s lending performance, philanthropic programs, employee volunteer initiatives and community-based projects. She also previously served in similar capacities for Fannie Mae Foundation, United Negro College Fund and the National Association of African Americans for Positive Imagery.
Education and Professional Development
Mellanie Lassiter holds an undergraduate degree from Spelman College and a Masters Degree in Training and Organization Development from St. Joseph’s University. A member of the 2008 class of Leadership Philadelphia, she has completed numerous professional development courses including Harvard University’s Design School Institute of Affordable Housing, Arts and Business Council of Philadelphia’s Business On Board Training and the Greater Philadelphia Leadership Academy.
Mellanie Lassiter serves on the boards of the Urban League of Philadelphia (Chair, Advocacy and Policy Committee), Art Sanctuary (Board Chair) and Delaware Valley Grantmakers. She also serves on the Steering Committee of ArtsRising, an ambitious city-wide arts education/integration initiative and is a member of the Philadelphia Chapter, Links, Inc.
Honors and Recognition
Recognized for exceptional community service and civic engagement, Mellanie Lassiter was identified as one of “10 People Under 40 to Watch in 2009” by the Tribune Magazine. She also received the 2009 Corporate Community Service Award from the Philadelphia Chapter, Frontiers International. In 2010, she was honored by Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown at the 2010 Celebration of Moxie Women as a Next Generation of Leadership: Rising Stars honoree and by the American Women’s Heritage Society as a “Mover and Shaker. “ Most recently, Mellanie was honored as the “2010 Urban Leader Under 40” by the Urban League of Philadelphia and as a Trailblazer by Pathways PA.
