Cheyney University Art, Biology & HRTM Students Partner with Local Retirement Communities

The build-up was a year in the making; everyone stood anxiously, awaiting the big reveal. When the golden sheet was removed and the colorful 4' x 4' mural unveiled, oohs and ahhs filled the Lounge at Kendal~Crosslands in Kennett Square, PA as Cheyney University students, faculty and staff stood arm in arm with residents and staff at the retirement community.

Cheyney University Celebrates Founders Day by Embracing Standards of Excellence Since 1837

Cheyney University of Pennyslvania celebrated its 177th Convocation on February 28 with the theme "Embracing Standards of Excellence Since 1837." Philadelphia City Councilwoman Jannie L. Blackwell, a 1968 graduate of Cheyney, was this year's Convocation Speaker. She told the young people gathered that they need four things in order to be successful.

A fascinated audience at Carnegie Hall heard Curtis Cheyney, III, Esq., descendant of George Cheyney, on whose land Cheyney University sits, and alumna Dr. Marion Lane, (’70), President of the Society of the Descendants of Washington’s Army at Valley Forge, talk about the interlocking history of Cheyney University, the Cheyney family, and patriots of African descent in the Revolutionary War.

A tribute for Ed Bradley will be held on Feb. 22, 2011 at 6 pm in the DSS bldg. for his career achievements, legacy, and inspiration to aspiring young media professionals. Cheyney's new television station will be called the Ed Bradley Broadcast Center and is also located in the DSS Bldg. Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the TV Studio & the Unveiling of the Bronze Bust of Ed Bradley.

During the week of February 22nd, Cheyney University will host a lecture with film maker Spike Lee, a tribute to the late Ed Bradley (former CBS television news journalist and Cheyney alumnus), as well as, performances, art exhibits and presentations all culminating in the University’s annual Founder’s Day Convocation. The events are open to students, alumni, faculty, staff and the general public.
