A 19-person delegation from the Cheyney University Hotel, Restaurant & Tourism Management (HRTM) Program is just back from the 26th Annual National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH) Conference & Career Fair. The big event was held at The Westin Convention Center in Pittsburgh, PA February 11 – 15. A number of them walked away with internship and job offers.

Dr. Ivan Turnipseed, Associate Professor and Coordinator of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management (HRTM) at Cheyney University, is juggling many balls these days. The newly elected department chair of Hospitality & Recreation Management now plays the lead role in the administration of the HRTM Program, the Recreation & Leisure Management Program, and faculty employees in the Athletics Program.

Cheyney University’s fourth annual Entrepreneurial Business Plan Awards event is planned for 5 pm on Wednesday, April 24. Author of the book "From the Courtroom to the Kitchen” and host of the TV show “Sugar Rush,” Warren Brown, will give the keynote address at 6 PM in Marian Anderson Music Center.

Harris, will participate in the Disney College Program internship in January 2012. The program is located in Orlando, FL.

A special report in a recent issue of Diverse Issues in Higher Education has named Cheyney University’s Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management (HRTM) Program as a top 20 degree producer.
“The three-part Top 100 Special Report provides the only national analysis of U. S. college’s and university’s success in awarding degrees to Black, Hispanic, Asian American and American Indian students,” the journal noted in an article announcing the top 100 degree producers.

Shawn Murray works with his mother Gladys on the James Murray & Edwin Wilkinson Scholarship they created. The awards of $1,000 each will be given to three students to attend Cheyney University’s Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management program. Shawn Murray, coordinator of the program, is a graduate of the Plymouth Whitemarsh High School and the culinary arts program at the Central Montco Technical High School. This year’s recipients of the new scholarship will come from the 2011 class at CMTHS.

Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology “BEST” Competition was held in Philadelphia, PA on November 6, 2010 at the High School of the Future on Girard Ave located near the Philadelphia Zoo. Cheyney University was represented by Dr. Judith Ray, Associate Professor of Cheyney University's School of Education & Professional Studies, and two of her students Leah Mitchell and Kyle Alleyne. Cheyney students served as judges for the Robotics Competition.

Cheyney University professor, Dr. Judith Ray, is giving her students in the recreation leisure management program a lesson in the sciences. Two Robots (ROV1 and ROV2) were tested for efficiency and effectiveness in the University’s pool, and the robot buoyancy testing provided an educational opportunity for students in the areas of math, science, test procedures, and experimental protocol for the robots.
