Cheyney University invites applications for pool of Temporary, Part-Time Professional Tutors to support students in the Academic Success Center. Although Professional Tutors may have contracts extending up to a year, assignments can end at anytime with 7-days notice. Tutors can be hired to assist in many areas on campus including BEAR Program, Academic Success Center or University College. We have increased need for tutors in the STEM areas. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)

The essential functions of the Professional Tutors include the following:

Provide tutorial services for students who have scheduled appointments and/or drop-ins for academic support in specialized subject areas.

Respond to scheduled appointments with students as well as follow up appointments.

Provides problem solving strategies and study skills techniques during tutorial sessions.

Discuss students' academic needs in specific subject areas.

Follow study plans designed by the University.

Provide information for confidential records of student progress.

Participate and assist in skill building workshops upon request.

Complete Tutor Certification forms (include student name, date, length of session and area of assistance) for students for whom services are provided.

Provide weekly large group tutorials for students enrolled in developmental courses.

For computer lab tutorials ensure students sign in, review assignment requirements, coach with writing, review completed work, provide documentation of activities, assist with computer log-ins and answer general questions.

Education, Training, and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree in any area; must have graduated with at least a 2.8 overall GPA and a 3.0 GPA in the subject area where tutoring will be provided. One to two years experience providing tutorial services to individuals or small groups OR one to two years teaching experience.
