Cheyney University of Pennsylvania invites applications and nominations for the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is the Chief Academic Officer of the University, responsible for the administration of all programs of instruction, research, mentoring and facilitating the success of the University’s faculty and students. This position will play a critical role in shaping the academic future of the institution. Primary functions are to provide leadership for operations and direct activities surrounding the implementation and achievement of the academic mission of the institution, to coordinate operations and initiatives across functional areas and to coordinate university strategic planning activities.
The Provost and VPAA reports to the President and serves as the chief executive officer in the absence of the President. As a member of the President’s Cabinet, the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs works collaboratively with the executive team to advance the University mission, vision and strategic plan. The Provost serves on a variety of university-wide committees including, but not limited to, the faculty union “Meet and Discuss”.
The ideal candidate must possess an earned doctorate with demonstrated teaching, scholarship and service commensurate with the rank of full professor. Candidates must have a proven record of progressive leadership experience in higher education as Dean, Associate Provost, Vice Provost, Provost or other comparable positions. Five or more years of relevant academic and administrative experience in higher education with demonstrated achievement in the management of curriculum, academic personnel, budget administration, strategic planning, academic program planning and accreditation experience is needed. Collective-bargaining and strong shared governance experience is preferred.
Cheyney University of Pennsylvania is the oldest of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities in America. It is a part of the fourteen-member Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE). Cheyney University accommodates more than 1,200 students in a picturesque and historic campus setting. The University is located on 275 acres in the suburban countryside of southeastern Pennsylvania, approximately 30 miles from Philadelphia and Wilmington, Delaware. Cheyney University also has a Center City Philadelphia location, not far from the historic section of the city. In 2012 a new state-of-the-art residence hall opened and a new science center and planetarium are expected to open in 2014.
