This Little Light of Mine, The Stories of Marian Anderson and Leontyne Price, will be performed by soprano Adrienne Danrich at the Marian Anderson Music Center on the campus of Cheyney University on Tuesday March 5 at 7:30 pm. Cheyney University Artist in Residence Wendell George Brown gave a gallery walk-through for Professor D'Antonio-Madsen and Professor Domenic's art students on Thursday afternoon. The event marked the opening of his show and the conclusion of a week's work in preparing the room for public view.

Professor Norma George of the Humanities and Communication Arts Department was one of only two persons awarded the Doctorate of Modern Languages at the commencement program held on August 12 at Middlebury College.

Cheyney University grieves at the loss of the talented professor and mentor, Edythe Scott Bagley.
Professor Bagley was a member of the Cheyney University faculty for 25 years, retiring in 1996. Her title was Associate Professor of Fine Arts in the department of English.

The Writing Center promotes literacy at America’s oldest Historically Black Institution of Higher Learning by providing support for student writing across all classes and disciplines. Writing assistants offer one-on-one consultations at all stages of the writing process from focusing topics through drafting, revising, and editing. Humanities and Communication Arts faculty, staff, students and alumni gathered on February 22 to mark the official opening of the Ed Bradley Broadcast Center. Bradley, the CBS television news journalist and Cheyney University alumnus ('64) was honored posthumously for his career accomplishments and his inspiriation to young, aspiring media professionals.

Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) conducted an African American Heritage Month program for its military and civilian personnel on Feb. 15 in Mechanicsburg, Penn.
Highlighting the event was guest speaker Professor F. Keith Bingham, university archivist at Cheyney University, Penn., and the Cheyney University Choir, directed by Marques L.A. Garrett. Cheyney University, founded in 1837, is the oldest African-American school of higher education in the United States.

A tribute for Ed Bradley will be held on Feb. 22, 2011 at 6 pm in the DSS bldg. for his career achievements, legacy, and inspiration to aspiring young media professionals. Cheyney's new television station will be called the Ed Bradley Broadcast Center and is also located in the DSS Bldg. Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the TV Studio & the Unveiling of the Bronze Bust of Ed Bradley.

The arts and lectures series begins Feb. 16 with Dr. Yohuru Williams, a lecturer on race and politics. On Feb. 24, Dr. Raymond Wise will explore the impact of spirituals and gospel music on African American Heritage. March 2 Sojourner Truth, Frederick Douglass, and Harriet Tubman will visit for a fireside chat. Throughout April the works of artist Purvis Young will be on exhibit and April 8 brings the Dance Theatre of Harlem. Don't miss the series finale, Treemonisha, on April 27.

Assistant Professor Helena Domenic recently had her article published on the Manhattan Arts Herstory blog about women in the Pre-Raphaelite art movement. The article spurred conversation on campus about role of women in art in the Pre-Raphaelite era.
