Joel T. Keener

Joel Keener is a Professor of Art at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania and Adjunct Professor at Wilmington University, Delaware for art and design. He is a published author, artist, photographer, sculptor, and graphic designer. After serving six years in the Navy (three in Viet Nam) he pursued his education earning a BS degree in Studio Art from Skidmore College and an MFA in Sculpture from the University of Pennsylvania. From 1980 to 1998 Joel instructed in the private sector and from 1997 to 2000 he taught a discipline-based art curriculum which he co-authored in a level five maximum secure facility for teenage boys. In 2000 Joel was hired by two institutions of Higher Education as adjunct faculty and in 2003 was hired full time at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania where he has received his second master’s degree. He co-authored a new degree program in Graphic Design and is training to be certified for online instruction. He has created several websites for clients as well as his own online art gallery.

Joel has exhibited internationally including the United Nations, NY, and Cairo, Egypt and has his work included in private collections. He has won numerous and prestigious awards for his intuitive pencil drawings. He is currently focused in the sculpture process. Visit the art gallery at 

Joel’s interests include Native American Heritage, historical reenacting (Living History) particularly between 1650 and 1730, and the Renaissance, outdoor photography, bicycling, Ancient History, Archery, and Philosophy.
