Patricia Bell and Julianne Lewis, May 2014 Cheyney University Keystone Honors Academy graduates, really made an impression at the June 19 Division 45 American Psychological Association (APA) Conference at the University of Oregon. They were the only undergraduate students attending the event in Eugene, Oregon which was dominated by graduate students and renowned researchers.

They wore beanies on their heads 50 years ago when they walked the Historic Quadrangle at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. On May 10, when they led the procession for the graduating Class of 2014 back at their alma mater, the women proudly wore white, while the men dressed in black.

Despite an afternoon that brought torrential downpours, Cheyney University's 2014 commencement went off without a hitch beginning at 11 am under the sun and the shade of a huge white tent on the school's Historic Quadrangle. As the University Band played Pomp and Circumstance, nearly 200 graduates marched forth to collect their undergraduate or graduate degrees that they worked so hard to attain.

The Keystone Honors Academy (KHA) at Cheyney University held its annual end of the year banquet on May 1. It was a red carpet affair, complete with elegantly dressed scholars who took time to pose for a host of pictures. For the 34 seniors who are moving on to jobs, law school, graduate school, medical school and other opportunities, the night was bittersweet.

Several Cheyney University W.W. Smith tuition-assistance scholarship recipients welcomed Michelle Montgomery, Grant Administrator, and Paralee Knight, Sr. Client Associate for Philanthropic Services of the W. W. Smith Charitable Trust on April 9. Cheyney University has received $1.6 million in scholarships from the Trust over the past 36 years. “This scholarship means so much to me,” said sophomore Anwar-Nasser Mathis, who recently lost both of his parents to cancer.

A free mobile crisis team is available to come to campus to help with assessment, intervention, and referral. Services include assistance with mental health issues, suicide intervention, and educational prevention workshops for students.

Black Angels Over Tuskegee Pack The House

The November 18 production of Layon Gray's Black Angels Over Tuskegee drew an almost-full house for this brilliant production which chronicled the history of the Tuskegee Airmen. The narrated production was presented through the eyes of six Tuskegee Airmen who battled racism and segregation during the 1940’s to beat the odds and earn their wings. The audience response ranged from laughter to tears.

First Female Ambassador from Rwanda to the US Visits Cheyney University

Professor Mathilde Mukantabana, the first female ambassador from Rwanda to the United States, learned a great deal about Cheyney University when she visited the institution's suburban campus on Friday, November 15. "We are very excited to build a stronger basis of collaboration," Ambassador Mukantabana told an assembly of Cheyney dignitaries.
