As the curtain rose on Poet Laurete Maya Angelou at Cheyney University's Marian Anderson Center on Thursday night, the audience welcomed her with a standing ovation. From babes in arms to senior citizens, she returned the praise with a warm song and huge smile. Inspired by the Book of Genesis those lyrics wove themselves into her words throughout the evening, "You have the power to be a rainbow in someone's cloud."

D.I.V.A. "Distinction Is Very Appealing" Program is a comprehensive and interactive four-part program series for women students. Each session, which lasts 90 minutes, provides a foundation for the session that follows. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend every session.

Starting this month, all Cheyney University faculty, staff, and students can take online Microsoft Digital Literacy Courses twenty-four hours per day and seven day per week for FREE. The online courses are available on the MyCU (Intranet) portal located on the cheyney.edu homepage.

Shawn Murray works with his mother Gladys on the James Murray & Edwin Wilkinson Scholarship they created. The awards of $1,000 each will be given to three students to attend Cheyney University’s Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management program. Shawn Murray, coordinator of the program, is a graduate of the Plymouth Whitemarsh High School and the culinary arts program at the Central Montco Technical High School. This year’s recipients of the new scholarship will come from the 2011 class at CMTHS.

The Writing Center promotes literacy at America’s oldest Historically Black Institution of Higher Learning by providing support for student writing across all classes and disciplines. Writing assistants offer one-on-one consultations at all stages of the writing process from focusing topics through drafting, revising, and editing. The Writing Center at Cheyney University provides a friendly, quiet environment for reading, writing, and collaboration.

Cheyney University Keystone Honors Academy graduate Nina Knight (08') was admitted into the University of Pittsburgh School of Law on a full Bond Hill Scholarship. She has recently been appointed as an Assistant District Attorney in Philadelphia.

Cheyney University is one of the 48! The best and the brightest shine playing Honda Campus All-Star Challenge, the long-running Q & A competition between students at America's Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). 50,000+ students have used their brainpower and buzzer-skills to earn their schools over $6 million in grants from Honda. Now that the "Great 48" have been announced, teams will kick into overdrive in practices and at the Pre-NCTs

During the week of February 22nd, Cheyney University will host a lecture with film maker Spike Lee, a tribute to the late Ed Bradley (former CBS television news journalist and Cheyney alumnus), as well as, performances, art exhibits and presentations all culminating in the University’s annual Founder’s Day Convocation. The events are open to students, alumni, faculty, staff and the general public.

The Cheyney University Keystone Honors Academy and the Honda Campus All Star Challenge Club (CU-HCASC Club) initiated a food drive to help address the problem of hunger in our community. Donations were collected by the Chester County Food Bank on November 23, 2010.
