Kemuel Wright finished third in the 100 m with a time of 10.72 and second in the 200 m in a NCAA provisional time of 21.42.

Freshman Shanavia Thomas placed fifth in the long jump with a mark of 5.49 m. Thomas along with team mates Veronica Sweet, Alean Rhoades and Jasmine Carter posted a 49.14 in the 4 X 100 relay and will participate in the final tomorrow. Thomas and Cater will also both race in 100 m finals on Saturday. The duo finished fifth and sixth respectively in the preliminaries posting times of 12.16 and 12.28 respectively. Cheyney University Assistant Track Coach Angelo passed away on Tuesday, May 1. Coach Booker suffered a stroke three weeks ago and lapsed into a coma before expiring.
The funeral is scheduled for Thursday, May 10.

Javier Garcia placed fourth in the shot put with an effort of 12.52 m. Garcia also took home a bronze medal in the javelin with a mark of 52.02 m. Team mate Daniel Shalom placed seventh in the javelin with a mark of 47.07. In the triple jump Jewel Jones finished second with an effort of 12.83 m.

Day two at the Penn Relays saw the 4 X 100 relay squad of Lonnell Wilson, Kemuel Wright, John Melvin and Nate McCoy posted a 42.62 to edge out the US Naval Academy for seventh place in the second heat of the day. The same four posted a 1:29.08 in the 4 X 200 to finish second in the their heat behind the University of Maryland. The 4 X 400 relay squad of Melvin, McCoy, Wright and Justin Watkins placed third in the College Men’s 4 X 400 CTC.

Javier Garcia set a new school record in the shot put with an effort of 14.91 m. He finished at the Princeton Invitational and was the top D II finisher.
Lonnell Wilson and Kemuel Wright both made the final of the 60 meters. Wilson finished second in a time of 7.00. Wright’s time of 7.01 in the preliminaries was the second fastest of the day. Wilson also finished second in the 200 meters with a time of 22.49.

Kemuel “Cam” Wright set a new school record winning the 60 meters and setting a school record in a blistering 6.87. Earlier in the day he won his heat and placed third overall in the preliminaries in with a 7.00. Wright’s time is the seventh fastest in D II this season.

Cheyney University dominated the sprints at the Bowie Tie Classic, the season opening indoor track meet hosted by Ursinus College. Cheyney took six of the top nine spots in the 60 meters including a 1,2,3 finish by Kemuel Wright, Kalik Mitchel and Lonnell Wilson. The trio was separated by .13 seconds. CU also took home eight of the top ten spots in the 200 meters. Wright led the way with a time of 22.75, two tenths faster than his nearest competitor, teammate Wilson.

James Vallery, one of Cheyney University's top 400m runners in school history join the men’s & women’s track & field coaching staff. Vallery will work with the long sprinters. While a student athlete at Cheyney, Vallery put together an impressive career. On multiple occasions he has earned All-PSAC honors and currently ranks: 4th All-Time 200m Indoor, 3rd All-Time Outdoor 200m, and 2nd All-Time Outdoor at 400m. He is the current 400M indoor school record holder.
