Miss Cheyney University Raises $700 for Breast Cancer Awareness

October 16, 2012

Despite the overcast sky and light rain on Sunday, October 7, 2012, Miss Cheyney University 2012-2013, Janelle McKelvey, held a Cancer Walk and Run as part of her Health Awareness Platform. Miss Cheyney along with the Men's Basketball team, members of the SCGA, friends, family and alumni walked from the McKnight-Rogers Health Center to the O' Shields-Stevenson track where they walked nearly two miles for breast cancer awareness.

"Men's Basketball was glad to be part of this worthy cause and would like to thank Ms. Cheyney University, Janelle Mckelvey, for arranging this event and accepting the assistance from Men's Basketball," stated Head Men’s basketball Coach Dominique Stephens.

T shirts, wrist bands, ribbons and snacks were given to participants and $75 was collected that day. In an effort to raise more funds, money was collected throughout the month of October for breast cancer awareness. By the end of the month, $700 was collected for the Susan G. Koman Foundation on behalf of Cheyney University.

Miss Cheyney University said, "I would like to thank everyone that participated in this fundraiser for their help in this worthwhile endeavor."
