2011 Band Camp Information August 15th

Attention Bandmembers,

We are back! With great pleasure I welcome you to the 2011 Cheyney University "Soulful
Sound" Band Camp. The development of the Cheyney University Band Program over the last few
years has been an amazing story to revisit and share over and over again. However, our return to
The Marian Anderson Music Center signified the close of the first chapter in this epic journey
of re-establishing a premier collegiate level band program. The driving force of the program and
the key to our success are the talents and positive attitudes of our participating band members. As
a recipient of this letter you have become eligible to be part of this critical nucleus. In your emailed
statement of intent to participate please feel free to share any leadership experiences you
have had in the band or other organization. We are always looking for the future generation of
gifted leaders.

We welcome you and your desire to contribute to the continued development of a great legacy. A
successful completion of band camp will make you eligible to be involved in our history-making
season. In the 2011 season we will be unveiling our brand new band instruments from our
recently awarded Conn-Selmer Grant and raising our standard of performance. The acquisition of
quality instruments is a major step in our vision of becoming a premier collegiate level
performance organization. The blending of your talents with our unique and gifted returning
members will help us establish a critical nucleus of participants who can help us reach the next
level of maturity as an organization. As you prepare yourself musically, mentally, and physically
for the challenges of the upcoming year, remember attitude and character are the keys to your
success. (Memorize and internalize the attached Character statement, Attitude statement and the
Alma Mater)

All New Bandmembers will check into the residence halls between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on
August 15, 2011. Please note: Residence Life will not allow any bandmember to check into
his/her dormitory unless validated and cleared. It is your responsibility to be cleared by the
Office of the Bursar. It is best that each perspective student contact the Bursar's Office (610)
399-2224 and the Resident Life and Housing (610) 399-2398 prior to your arrival.

Here you will find pertinent information relative to this year's Fall Band Camp and a "Soulful,
Sound" performance schedule for the school year 2011-2012. Upon receipt of your band camp
information packet please fill out and submit the following items:

  • E-mail Statement of Intent to Participate
  • Bring your Cheyney University Participation Release Form
  • Know your uniform, shirt, and shoe sizes


Please come to band camp prepared to pay for the cost of shoes and spats for bandmembers; and
auxiliary members should price and be ready to order their tights, Nancy boots, and other uniform
accessories. (Upon your arrival, please check with your dance and color guard captains.)
