ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: Bonnie L. Pyett '72

Bonnie L. Pyett '72
Bonnie L. Pyett graduated from the Philadelphia High School for Girls in June 1968. She matriculated at Cheyney State College and graduated in 1972 with a B.S. in Secondary Education (French). She earned her Master of Science degree in National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, in Fort McNair, Washington, D.C. She is a graduate of the Defense Systems Management College Program Manager's School, past recipient of the Secretary of the Navy Career Fellowship Award for graduate work, and a graduate of Leadership Harrisburg Area. Bonnie directs the Navy Hazardous Materials Program at the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) and has completed more than 38 years of outstanding civil service. She is the only GS-15 African American employee in the NAVSUP enterprise comprised of more than 11,000 civilian employees. She is a member of Senior Acquisition Core, the Acquisition Professional Community, a life-time member of the Blacks In Government (BIG) Organization, and a member of Federal Executive Women (FEW). She received National a Career Communications Group, National Women of Color Government Innovation Awards, and was recognized in the Harrisburg Patriot News "Un-Sung Hero" feature column for her dedicated volunteer efforts and servant-leadership to the region.
Bonnie currently mentors 15 Cheyney University graduates working in the Naval Supply Systems Command enterprise. She leads the NAVSUP Interns Volunteer Service Project at Cheyney University. She is a graduate of Leadership Harrisburg Area and volunteers at the annual Naval Support Activity Mechanicsburg Adult Special Olympics. She sponsors children for the NSA Annual Children's Christmas Party, serves on the American Legion Oratorical Contest Judges panel and the Blacks In Government Scholarship Committee. In May 2010 Bonnie volunteered at the Cheyney University class of Senior Breakfast and made a contribution to the Cheyney University Alumni Association fundraiser. Bonnie is a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Harrisburg, Pa., where Reverend Dr. Danny Conyers serves as pastor.
