The Recreation and Leisure Management (RLM) Program recently welcomed its first ever advisory board to Cheyney University. Following brief greetings from Hospitality & Recreation Management Department Chair Dr. Ivan Turnipseed, Senior Recreation Intern Jordan Richardson and Senior Alicia Mackey joined Professor Patricia Walker, Board Facilitator; Dr. Gregory Smith, Senior Faculty; and Prof. Zakiya Newton in an engaging discussion with the diverse group of industry partners.
“We established the advisory board to continually improve our program, courses, curriculum, delivery strategies and facilities,” remarked Walker. “We respect our partners’ knowledge, experience and training, and believe they can make valuable contributions to the RLM Program. They can help guide professional development, prepare students for productive futures, and promote and advocate for the requisite networks, resources, and preparation for success.”
As the Board dined on a delicious lunch prepared by Cheyney HRTM (Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management) students under the direction of Chef Christine Neugebauer, they learned about Cheyney University’s history, received an overview of the RLM Program, and heard about future plans. The Board is reportedly excited about the work ahead and is already discussing how they can support Recreation scholars and contribute to the entire Cheyney University community.
