Romance novelist and Cheyney University alumna Alice Wootson will appear at Carnegie Hall Great Room on Wednesday, April 10 for an afternoon tea and book signing.

Romance novelist Alice Wootson grew up in suburban Pittsburgh.  She learned to read early and has been an avid reader ever since. Wootson came to the Philadelphia area when she was a teenager to attend Cheyney University where she earned a B.S. degree in elementary education. Ms. Wootson also has a Master's Degree in Education, a Principal's Certification from CU, and a Reading Specialist Certification from the University of Pennsylvania.

By trade, Wootson was a Reading/Language Arts Specialist who taught in Chester and Philadelphia, PA. She was responsible for conducting writing and reading workshops for teachers.  Wootson retired from the School District of Philadelphia after 31 years of service and now spends her time writing love stories.  "I like happy endings," she acknowledges.

The award-winning author of 11 romance novels is bringing her work and her love for reading back to her alma mater on Wednesday, April 10 at 2 pm for an old-fashioned tea party.  The Cheyney University Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Professor Allen Gardner, will perform during the event.  Library Technician Donna Bozic came up with the novel idea which is sponsored by The L. P. Hill Library and will appropriately be held in what used to be the old library on campus--in Carnegie Hall's Great Room.

Ms. Wootson has conducted writing workshops for numerous groups, including Romance Slam Jam in Dallas, TX, the Philadelphia Writers' conference, and various writers' groups for many chapters of Romance Writers of America. In addition, the award-winning poet has been featured at several Philadelphia-area venues.  Her romance novels include "Perfect Wedding," "Ready To Take a Chance," "Aloha Love," "Snow Bound Love," "To Love Again," and her newest work "Love Will Make it Better."  She will gladly sign copies of her books at the tea.

Wootson spends any spare time that she can find reading, traveling and enjoying her three grandchildren. She lives in Philadelphia with her husband of nearly 50 years.
