Banks Picks Two
October 1, 2011
Stan Banks picked off two passes including one that went for 28-yards and a Cheyney University (1-4:0-2) touchdown but it wasn’t enough as the Wolves fell 10-7 to Millersville (2-3:1-1).
After a scoreless first quarter it was Banks who scored the first pints of the game with 3:03 to play in the first half. He picked off a Dan Miller pass along the sideline and scampered 28 yards down the sideline. After a Jewel Jones point after touchdown the Wolves took a 7-0 lead into the locker room.
Cheyney signal caller Chris Anderson completed a season high 17 passes for 223 yards. Dominic Crowell caught seven passes for 58 yards and Prince Stewart had six receptions for 91 yards. Cheyney’s Javier Garcia led all players with eight tackles including a tackle for loss and a fumble recovery. Besides his two interceptions, Banks was credited with three tackles and three pass break-ups.
Millersville evened the score on their first possession of the second half. Quarterback Dan Miller capped a six play 83 yard drive by calling his own number on a fourth and one from the one yard line. The big play in the drive was a 53 yard completion to David Coates down the sidelines. Coates ended the day with 57 yards receiving, 28 rushing and 17 return yards. Miller ended the day 10-25 for 142 yards and three interceptions.
An Anthony Kassab 33 yard field goal with 1:12 proved to be the margin of victory for the Marauders.
A Cheyney 43 yard field goal in the waning second was just short.
Cheyney will travel to nationally ranked Bloomsburg next Saturday while the Marauders will play their first home game of the season against the Pioneers of C.W. Post.
