Benjamin Named Outstanding Alumnus

Cheyney University President Michelle R. Howard-Vital welcomed members of the Cheyney University National Alumni Association (CUNAA) at the opening meeting of their annual Alumni Weekend events held on campus recently. The President updated members about campus construction projects, budget issues, and campus events. CUNAA members asked questions on a variety of issues and expressed support to President Howard-Vital in the planning and execution of the University's celebration of the 175th anniversary.

Outgoing CUNAA president Sandra Merritt Countley was presented with an award for her outstanding service and Clarence Williams received the Chapter of the Year Award on behalf of the State of Delaware Alumni Chapter. The Outstanding Alumnus Award for 2011 was bestowed upon Cheyney University Alumni Relations Director Gregory Benjamin. "I was totally surprised to receive this award," said Benjamin. "Everything I do for Cheyney  alums, students and the University comes from the heart and the love I have for Cheyney."

Benjamin ('81) stewards the Alumni "Last Dollar" Scholarship which provides funds to students who need assistance in covering past due balances after all other forms of aid have been exhausted. He also manages the Alumni Million Dollar fund campaign and all campus events and activities relative to CU alumni.
