Blue White Game Ends a Near Perfect Spring

April 21, 2012

The Cheyney University football team concluded spring practice with the annual Blue-White Game in front of about 100 faithful in O’Shields-Stevenson Stadium. The defensive prevailed 36-28 in a modified scrimmage.

“We got a lot accomplished this spring,” commented Coach Lockard. Last year at this time Lockard had an interim tag placed on his title. This year it is gone. The Wolves players and coaches have rallied around and the coach. Lockard is happy how the spring has gone. “Today we ran over 50 plays and both the offense and defense rose to the occasion."

The offense produced two touchdowns via the pass from James Ramsey. One to Nahum Purdie for 63 yards and the other to Jeff Moten for nine yards. The running back duo of Barrow and Burgos worked well and proved that they can complement All-PSAC running back Marcus Jones. Jones set out the scrimmage due to tweaked hamstring. “We all know what Marcus can do. There was no sense in putting him out there today,” stated Lockard. Ramsey sat out last year. Converted wide out Blaze Waaserleben also played quarterback.

On the defensive side of the ball the Wolves will have to replace the big shoes of graduating Tim Hume. “Shannon Burch has provided some great leadership,” continued Lockard.

Points were scored several ways for both the offense and defense. The scoring table in below.
