Bowlers Set a New Mark

February 21, 2011

The Cheyney University bowling team ended the 2010-11 season with more wins than any other CU bowling squad. The team ended the campaign with 18 victories with wins over arch rival Lincoln, Division I Coppin State and # 10 Adelphi just to name a few.

This past week, Cheyney participated in the Morgan State Invitational and faced some of the best competition they saw all season. Cheyney fell to Vanderbilt, Nebraska, St. Peters and Hampton in traditional team games. The Lady Wolves dropped baker contests against Delaware State, North Carolina Central, Morgan State, Maryland Eastern Shore and North Carolina A&T.

The Lady Wolves top bowler on the weekend was Danielle Mines. She averaged 157.4 in nine games. Janae Silver, Destinee Bennett, Manoucheca Julce and Erica Williams rounded out the Cheyney squad this week.

“I’m proud of what the team accomplished this year,” stated Coach Michael Blakeney. “A record number of wins and hosting the first ever Pennsylvania Championship were highlights of the season. I look forward to building on our success next year.”
