Brown Leads Cheyney Defense
September 17, 2011
Cory Brown was credited with 13 tackles but it was not enough to stop the Fighting Scots of Edinboro (3-0) as Cheyney University (1-2) fell 41-13 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference football crossover game.
Edinboro scored touchdowns on two of their first three possessions to jump out to a 14-0 lead before the Wolves answered. Quarterback Chris Anderson orchestrated a nine play 60-yard drive that was capped off with a completion of 25 yards to Prince Stewart seconds before the first quarter came to an end.
Edinboro tacked on a field goal to start the second quarter and a touchdown on their next possession to take a 24-6 advantage. After an Adrese Hicks interception and return to the Fighting Scot seven, the Wolves were in prime position to add points to the scoreboard. Two plays later, Justin Watkins took a handoff up the middle and into the end zone to cut the lead to 24-13. However the Fighting Scots found the end zone once again before the half time break.
Edinboro posted 10 unanswered points in the second half to secure the victory.
Marcus Jones led the Cheyney rushing attack with 52 yards on 15 carries. Anderson and Malik Witten combined for 41 yards on 4-11 passing.
Cheyney will continue life on the road with a trip to Kutztown next Saturday to begin PSAC East play.
