The Cheyney University "C" Club hosted its 4th annual Wade Wilson Golf Classic and Auction at the Penn Oaks Country Club in West Chester, PA, Monday, August 26.

"What sets us apart from the other outings out there is that we offer something for the non-golfers," commented "C" Club President Bobby Hunter.  "This year we were able to put together a behind-the-scenes of QVC and a wine tasting at Penns Woods Winery."   Those events attracted non-golfers who got to see the studios of the world's largest electronic retailer and taste local wines in Chadds Ford, PA.

This year's golf tourney, auction and site-seeing tour reportedly generated more than $55,000.  Proceeds benefit athletic scholarships for CU students.

The "C" Club is committed to Cheyney University's 12 varsity sports and the cheerleading squad. The Club serves as a booster organization to enhance school spirit, increase attendance at sporting events, raise money for the department and build overall enthusiasm for the University. Through contributions to the annual athletic fund, donors are enrolled as members of the "C" Club, a status that entitles them to receive membership benefits corresponding to their donation level. "C" Club members are alumni, former student-athletes, parents, friends, fans and community supporters who believe that a strong intercollegiate athletic program can enhance character and University spirit, as well as increase Cheyney's national visibility. Members have contributed steadily in support of the University since the "C" Club was founded.

It was the third time in as many years that the Golf Outing and Silent Auction were held just miles from campus at Penn Oaks. "Penn Oaks has been a wonderful partner the last couple of years," stated Joseph DeVane, Tournament Director.

State Senator Vincent Hughes was this year's Honorary Chair.

"Senator Hughes has been a steadfast supporter, advocate and donor to Cheyney University for over the past two decades. The senator represents the 7th District which includes areas of Philadelphia and neighboring areas - approximately 47 percent of CU students reside in these areas," stated Cheyney University President Michelle Howard-Vital.
