Members of the Cheyney University athletic staff were recently re-certified in CPR and use of an AED (automated external defibrillator).
Carolyn Bingham, a trainer with the American Red Cross, led discussions on the duty to respond to an emergency and preventing the spread of blood borne pathogens. She reviewed checking for a pulse, opening the airway, ventilations, chest compressions and AED's.
"I'm glad I was able to be certified. This is one of the those small steps that make a big impact on someone's life," commented Sinyan Whitfield, the Department's Administrative Assistant.
All Cheyney staff members in attendance were able to demonstrate the proper techniques to be used in various situations. The certification is valid for two years.
