Cheyney University celebrated National Student Athlete Day with mock tail party at the President’s residence on the historic campus. Dr. Michelle Howard Vital welcomed the invited student athletes as well as members of the University Cabinet and other prestigious guests.
Those students that were recognized included the 42 student-athletes that had a cumulative grade point average above a 3.0, 28 student athletes that were on the Dean’s List (3.5 of higher) for the Fall 2011 semester plus an additional 18 student athletes that earned above a 3.25 last semester. A complete list of student athletes recognized is below.
Traditionally celebrated on April 6 every year, the Cheyney University celebration was pushed back a week due to the holiday.
A stirring message was delivered by Interim Athletic Director, Ruffin Bell. He encouraged the student athletes to continue their pursuit of knowledge by excelling as an undergraduate and go onto to earn a Master’s Degree. “A Bachelor’s Degree isn’t what it used to be. More and more people are obtaining Master’s Degrees. If you want to be competitive in the marketplace an advanced degree is almost a necessity.”
