Eighteen members of the Cheyney University Football Team recently volunteered their time at the Wissahickon Boys and Girls Club in Philadelphia and they left quite an impression.
“The guys worked extremely hard and had an enjoyable time giving back to the community,” commented Head Coach Ken Lockard. “There was nothing our guys wouldn’t tackle.”
Libby Lescalleet, Executive Program Officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia told CU Athletic Director Ruffin Bell; “I would like to commend the hard work and attention to detail the group had while at the site.” Lescalleet said she and her staff had a wish list of things they wanted to get cleaned and painted and the team completed the list so quickly, they were able to move on to a new list and finish that, too.
Before leaving, the team repainted the kindergarten room, sorted all of the books in the library and removed damaged books, cleaned out two storage closets in the gym, set up new program space on the stage, repainted in the weight room and upstairs classroom, touched up paint on the second floor, cleaned two upstairs storage closets and moved items into them from downstairs, scrubbed all upstairs steps, scraped old tape from the entrance windows, cleaned all walls in the café, removed staples from walls and touched up the mural in the hallway.
Lescalleet said the Cheyney men, who worked all day, were “amazingly polite and enjoyable. They are a credit to their school and team.”
