CU Is Finalist in Home Depot "Retool Your School" Grant Program Competition - Voting Continues through April 15
February 17, 2013
Cheyney University of Pennsylvania has been selected as one of 75 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) eligible to compete for the 2013 Retool Your School Campus Improvement Grant Program.
Last year, Cheyney University came in third in The Home Depot contest, established in 2010. The purpose of the program is to provide support and grants for on-campus enhancement projects for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across the country. Thanks to voters, CU received a $10,000 grant in 2012 which was used for beautiful landscaping around the recently restored historic Melrose House on campus.
More campus enhancements are planned, but CU needs friends, students, family members, alumni and all Cheyney supporters to vote once a day, every day on every device – PC, lab computers, tablets, cell phone, etc. now through April 15. The top prize is a $50,000 grant, followed by a $25,000 grant. In addition, 12 colleges will each get a $10,000 grant to help spruce things up around their campuses.
Cheyney University has proposed the following projects for a Retool Your School Grant:
HBCU fans and alumni can log on and vote at www.retoolyourschool.com now through April 15 to help bring home the grand prize. Fans are encouraged to spread the word and use social media to promote Cheyney University via the designated hashtag #cheyneyRYS2013. Cheyney University supporters can vote once a day using that hashtag without limit via Twitter and Instagram.
One $50,000 grant recipient, and twelve $10,000 grant recipients will be determined by a combination of the online voting score and advisory board scores. One $25,000 grant recipient will be determined by the school that receives the most votes and social media activity, as assessed by The Home Depot.
