The Cheyney University National Alumni Association (CUNAA) took center court at Philadelphia's Wells Fargo Center Friday, January 17th.  CUNAA Night at the Sixers Game turned out to be a fun-filled fundraising event beginning early in the afternoon when Cheyney alumni and their children, grandchildren and other relatives took to the baksetball court that the 76ers play on to have some friendly competition.  The Cheyney blue and white was well represented as young and old played pick-up games and competed to see who had the best 3-point and foul shots.

At 4 pm, the CUNAA contingent--170 strong--moved to the nearby Cadillac Grille for food, fellowship, picture-taking and reminiscing before heading back to the hardwoods.  Just before tip-off, in front of a crowd, CUNAA President Junious Stanton, CUNAA Night at the Sixers Organizer Camille Gadsen and CU Alumni Director Greg Benjamin stood center court to present CU President Dr. Michelle R. Howard-Vital with a big check for $280,000.  The money, collected from CU alumni during the last six months of 2013, will go to support scholarships for ambitious students at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania.

Twenty-one children, relatives of CUNAA members, got the thrill of a lifetime when they were chosen to greet the 76ers as they came onto the court to face the current NBA Champions, the Miami Heat. Each child got to high-five the players as they came out of the lockeroom for all to see up close or projected high on the jumbotron.  CUNAA's name and Cheyney's University seal was also projected on the jumbotrons throughout the night.

"They loved it," exclaimed Benjamin, referring to the "high 5's" the kids got to give to the Sixers.  "The kids had a gleam in their eyes.  It was just unbelievable."

After watching the 76ers lose to the Heat, the CUNAA group gathered for an after party at Stadium Sports Bar. Proceeds from the entire day's events will go to more scholarships for Cheyney students in the future. CUNAA recently raised $1 million for the University in a three-year campaign and has set a new goal to raise an additional $2 million.
