As part of the legendary Big Apple Classic (BAC), the Cheyney University Soulful Sound Band will perform in the Classic drum-line competition at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY on Sunday December 15.
The BAC was launched as New York’s first ever Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) basketball competition at Madison Square Garden seven years ago. The Classic, regarded as the ultimate family and social event, attracts thousands of alumni, students and fans from across the country to New York to take part in this annual tradition. Originally set in Manhattan, this is the first year that The Classic moves to the arena at the Barclays Center.
The 2013 BAC weekend officially kicks off on Saturday, December 14th with a Leadership Summit and Sports/Entertainment Symposium at the iconic New York Times Building. On Sunday, December 15th, the event moves to Barclays Center. Events there include a college fair featuring over 20 HBCUs, a dynamic step show performance, a drum-line competition and highly-anticipated halftime show plus the basketball games.
The BAC, NYC’s only HBCU basketball doubleheader, will bring four arch rivals – Virginia State University and Virginia Union University at 3 pm, Delaware State University and last year’s BAC champs, Howard University, at 6 pm, to battle it out in Brooklyn. The lively, high-stepping-style of the HBCU marching band experience and thrilling percussion performances are sure to get you out of your seat!
