Cheyney Lets One Slip Away

Cheyney started strong and let one slip away the Wolves fell 78-76 to Millersville in a PSAC East contest. A quartet of player tallied double figures for the Wolves as leading scorer Jason Sabb netted 29 for Cheyney. Team mates Deshawn Curtis added 14 while Anthony June and Jerrod Johnson chipped in 13 and 10 respectively.
The Wolves led by double figures in the first half before settling on a 36-31 lead at the break. Cheyney was able to get the lead back into double figures early in the second half after the Wolves went on an 11-6 run to start the half. However, Millersville would battle back immediately going on an 18-8 run to knot the game 55 with just over nine minutes to play. The remainder of contest featured a back and forth affair until the final minute. A three pointer by Millersville’s Demond Vance with 27 seconds remaining knotted the game once again. The Wolves tried holding for the final shot but Jason Sabb was fouled splitting a double team with nine seconds remaining. Sabb made 1-2, his only miss of the afternoon from the charity stripe, as he was 11-12 from the foul line for the game. The Marauders Larry Grant would drive the length of the court and make a lay-up, get fouled and convert the free throw with two seconds remaining for the final margin of victory.
The Wolves will travel to Kutztown on Wednesday night.
