Cheyney Lincoln Football Moves to Campus Site

July 15, 2011

For the third straight season Cheyney and Lincoln Universities will kick-off the football season against each other. This year the Battle of the Firsts – Wade Wilson Classic will be played in O’Shields-Stevenson Stadium on the campus of Cheyney University.

“To maximize the impact of our revenue streams we are bringing the game to campus. It is expected that playing the game in O’Shields-Stevenson Stadium, on the Cheyney University campus will bring out both student bodies,” commented China Jude, Director of Athletics. Because the schools are only 30 minutes apart, we expect a positive turnout.

Cheyney will look to All-PSAC running back Marcus Jones and defensive end Tim Hume to lead the Wolves to victory and seek revenge for defeats the past two seasons. Jones was one of the top rushes in the highly competitive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) a year ago. He averaged more than 100 yards per game. Hume has been selected a Pre-Season Honorable Mention All American by the Consensus Draft Service has been one of the leading tacklers on the squad since his freshman year.

Cheyney Interim Head Coach, Ken Lockard is no stranger to the game, having been a member of the Wolves coaching staff since the two HBCUs renewed the football rivalry two years ago. Lincoln has won both meetings but the Wolves are looking forward to its home field advantage. “The Cheyney – Lincoln rivalry is one of the best in all sports. The history between both schools is so rich that players and alumni always look forward to the rivalry, “said Lockard.
