Cheyney President is Woman of Distinction

October 25, 2012

Philadelphia Business Journal has announced that Dr. Michelle Howard-Vital, President of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, is the Journal’s 2012 Women of Distinction award recipient.  The region’s most dynamic women will be recognized on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 from 5 pm to 9 pm at the Sheraton Downtown Philadelphia Hotel, 17th & Race Streets.

” I am very honored to have been selected as a Woman of Distinction,” Dr. Vital said.  “This award brings more positive attention to the good works of Cheyney University and the diligence of faculty and staff.”

Vital has been President of the nation’s oldest institution for higher learning for African Americans since 2007.  Under her leadership, Cheyney has opened a new state-of-the-art residence hall, developed a University College model to improve retention and progression towards graduation, expanded the community of stakeholders for the University and approved funding to build a new Science Center and Planetarium, currently underway.

“Philadelphia Business Journal is thrilled to honor the women who are true role models in our region in professional achievement and in community service,” said Craig Ey, editor of Philadelphia Business Journal.  “The 2012 Women of Distinction winners, in particular, embody all of what makes the Philadelphia region great; people who are very talented, passionate about what they do and committed to personal, professional and community success.”
