Cheyney Sends Seniors Out With a Victory
February 18, 2012
Deshawn Curtis posted a double double in the first half to lead Cheyney to a 69-59 victory over Shippensburg in the final home contest of the season. Curtis ended the game with 16 points and 16 rebounds.
Senior Brandon Baylor did not disappoint his many friends and family who invaded Cope Hall to watch the transfer from Delaware State play his final game in Cope Hall. Baylor paced the Wolves with 19 points while team mate Jason Sabb chipped in 17. Both Baylor and Sabb played the entire game and combined for nine assists.
Cheyney led wire to wire. Cheyney owned an 11 point lead at the nine minute mark of the first half after Baylor drained a three from the left elbow. But the Wolves settled for a 32-26 lead at intermission. Four minutes into the second half the Red Raiders cut the lead to two (38-36) but an 11-2 run by the Wolves stretched the lead back to double figures where it stayed most of the second half. Shippensburg went on a 5-0 run of their own to cut the lead to six, however Cheyney quickly answered with a 9-1 to bring the lead up to 14 with just under five minutes to play.
The Wolves will end the year with trips to West Chester on Wednesday and East Stroudsburg next Saturday.
