Jada Phillips Sets School Record at the Penn Relays

Jada Phillips put the shot 13.10 m to finish second in her flight and set a new Cheyney University record. Her mark is also the fourth best posted in the PSAC this year.

Multi-talented film and stage actor Jeff Obafemi Carr brought his phenomenal one-man show Route 66: Finding Nat King Cole to Cheyney University's Marian Anderson Auditorium April 8th. Carr took the audience on a remarkable journey filled with humor, and sentimentality, revealing little known details about the life of Nat King Cole while singing some of his greatest hits such as "When I Fall In Love", "Straighten Up and Fly Right," "Smile," and "Unforgettable".

Cheyney Senior Travonya Kenly Receives PA State School System's Highest Academic Honor--the Ali-Zaidi Award--in Harrisburg

Cheyney University Senior Travonya Kenly today received the prestigious Ali-Zaidi Award, the highest level of academic achievement within the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) universities. She is the 15th recipient and the first Cheyney student to win the illustrious award. Every spring, each of the 14 PASSHE schools nominates a student for the Ali-Zaidi Award but only one gets the highest honor. $1000 and the Ali-Zaidi medallion, and congratulatory citations from lawmakers

The Girls of Summer, written and directed by award-winning playwright Layon Gray, kept the crowd riveted on Thursday, March 26 in Cheyney University’s Marian Anderson Music Center Auditorium. The actors and actresses played their roles well, keeping the audience guessing as one clue after another was revealed in what turned out to be a murder mystery coupled with racism, sexism, immorality, violence, bullying, and other issues.

Cheyney University Chief of Staff and Deputy to the President Sheilah Vance, Esq. gave the Keynote Speech March 24 at the Leadership Summit of the American Council on Education (ACE) Women’s Network, Delaware Chapter, at the Buena Vista Conference Center in New Castle, Delaware. ACE is designed to help women in higher education successfully perform in and advance in their careers. Vance challenged about 70 women from Delaware universities to "Dare to be Great."

Cheyney University Director of Student Activities Sharon Thorn was honored in the Ada Georges Dining Hall as part of Thompson Hospitality’s annual observance of Women in History Month. “We wanted to honor someone who definitely makes an impact on student life at Cheyney University, someone with tenure, someone who the students lean towards. We polled students during lunch and dinner hours and her name kept coming up,” explained a Thompson representative.

He quickly knew something was up when he saw two of his students who took an online chemistry class with him over the winter break, sitting around the conference table with his colleagues and members of the President's Executive Council.

In 11 years of competing in the fast-paced brain games that pit the best of 48 HBCUs against each other, this is the first time that Cheyney has advanced to the playoffs.

Former Cheyney football standout Jamil Williams made his professional football debut this past Friday for the ASI Panthers as they traveled to Saginaw, MI to take on the Sting. Williams fresh off his All-PSAC senior season received the starting nod at cornerback for the ASI Panthers professional indoor football team. Three other former wolves are also chasing their dreams in the pros with Williams.

Despite the snow, over 60 students showed up on Saturday, March 21, ready to soak up knowledge at Cheyney University's 2nd Annual Student Activities Leadership Conference. "Our students need to have all of the tools and resources available to them in order to evolve into the best possible leaders here at Cheyney and beyond," said LaMott Moore, a Director of Student Activities at CU. "We look forward to expanding the conference next year and eventually opening the conference up to other schools."
