CU Students Invited to Enter Innovative Micro Business Plan Competition - Registration Due By February 15

January 17, 2013

The Entrepreneurial Leadership Center (ELC) of Cheyney University is seeking current students to participate in its 2nd Annual Business Plan Competition.  Applicants who are interested in starting a new business or growing an existing business are encouraged to participate.

The theme for this year’s competition is "Innovation and Micro Business." The 2013 grand prize is a black 16GB Wi-Fi  iPad with Retina display.

A Micro-Enterprise (or micro business) is a small business, often having five or fewer employees, and requiring seed capital of not more than $35,000.   They are commonly referred to as a “Mom & Pop Business”.

Innovation is the creation of better or more effective products, processes, services, technologies, or ideas that are readily available to markets, governments, and society. For example, Mobile Auto Detailing is an innovative micro business.  In addition, it qualifies as a micro business because it can be started for less than $35k and with fewer than 5 employees.  This business is innovative because it differs from the traditional process of going to a carwash location (brick & mortar) in that it brings the service to the customer at a premium.

All students who are full or part-time, undergraduate or graduate, and currently enrolled at Cheyney University during the Spring 2013 semester are eligible to participate.

Interested students can register for The Innovative Micro Business Plan Competition online at  For further information, please email the ELC Director at  .
