Professor Shelly Weeks-Channel was named the Cheyney University Lindback Scholar at the 2013 Commencement program held on May 18, 2013. Dr. Weeks is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Education and Leadership and teaches classes in Special Education, Elementary Education, Early Childhood Development and Sociology. Born in Philadelphia, she lives in Montgomery County.

Cheyney University junior and Keystone Honors Academy scholar, Emmanuel Tyler, has received a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship in the amount of $4,500 to help fulfill his dream of studying abroad.

Cheyney Alum Maurice Allen is a teacher today because of a man who taught him years ago. Today, both men teach at the same school and, like his mentor, Allen is making a difference in the lives of young people--especially boys. At Cheyney, Allen said, he realized that young boys, especially African-American boys, need to see more male teachers in their early years in school.

Cheyney University has recently committed to participate in a matching scholarship program with the Albert M. Greenfield Foundation to support high school students who are participating in the Philadelphia Zoo's award-winning Zoo Champions for Restoring Endangered Wildlife (Zoo CREW) program which serves under-served youth from the Philadelphia area.

The popular Wade Wilson Golf Classic is planned for Monday August 26 at the Penn Oaks Country Club near West Chester PA. Golf, lunch, and a silent auction are highlights of the day. The Class of 1963 was reunited on Saturday, May 18 at Cheyney University's Commencement program. Although clouds were hovering in the skies, the reunion began in a sunny mood as old friends were reunited in the Burleigh Hall conference room.

The Athletic Department hosted it's Annual Banquet on May 8 at the Penn Oaks Golf Club in West Chester. Two-hundred people including the student-athletes, coaches, administrators and family members packed the ballroom to celebrate to accomplishments of the Cheyney University student-athletes.

The Cheyney University “Soulful Sound” Band Spring Concert on Tuesday night had music for every taste. The program promised wind ensemble, jazz band, show band, dance, color guard, classical, jazz and hip hop, and all were delivered magnificently.
