Cheyney University Learning and Living Community Building Gets Finishing Touches

June 28, 2012

Final touches are being made to the new residence hall, also known as Cheyney University Learning and Living Community or LLC. The building is expected to be ready for occupancy by over 380 Students and 16 Resident Advisors in early August.

Located to the west of the historic Quad, the four-story building is comprised of a series of four wings which intersect at angles.  Careful attention has been given to create a variety of room options in each section and harmonious hallway colors help identify each wing.  The entrance door is nestled in the northwest corner of the building, and opens onto a dramatic glass-walled common room. High ceilings, built in hardwood seating banks, a loft overlook, split stone-faced walls and state-of-the-art technology will make this home-away-from-home a haven for upper classmen.

The newest Cheyney University residence hall building is steps away from the Ada Georges Dining Hall, is connected to the University’s historic quadrangle, and offers an amazing view of campus. The state-of-the-art facility offers a premier suite-style living and learning community (LLC) that seeks to support the development of students’ holistic learning and experiences while in higher education.

In the interest of energy efficiency, 175 wells were installed 200 feet below the University practice field for a geothermal climate control system.  As a result, the system supports central air and heat throughout the building resulting in a year-round 70 degree temperature. Other built in technology includes security cameras, key card access to suites, study rooms, and lounges, and a PA system throughout the building.

The spacious air-conditioned single, double, and quad suites offer private and semi-private room accommodations. Each carpeted suite features a furnished common area, mini-refrigerator and microwave oven and bathrooms. In addition, each room contains a basic cable and Ethernet connections that links directly to the University network and the Internet. Convenient access to laundry facilities, trash disposal room, vending machines, lounges, conference room, and study lounges throughout the facility are provided. Members of the LLC will also have access to a community area with an adjoining snack area.
